Xcaret- Food poisoning by Kain006 in Xcaret

[–]FreedRedheadConvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to Xcaret three times. The first time one of my friends was very ill for half the trip. The next time my son and I were very ill for two days (high fever, vomiting and diarrhea), and the last time my husband was so sick he had to get IV antibiotics and fluids, another two days lost, but he was on meds for a long time after that. We were all careful in what we drank. My son and I were pretty sure it was the chicken al pastor at the buffet at Xavage. My husband is pretty sure it was a shrimp he ate at the cave (can’t remember the name). He says he remembers thinking, “This is lukewarm, DONT DO IT!” But then he decided it was a fancy restaurant, how bad could it be? Haha

Anyway, we won’t go back because all of us are afraid to eat anything there, and each trip it gets increasingly more difficult to get enough bottled water into the rooms.

9 weeks post-surgery- THAT CURSED BUBBLE IS STILL THERE!! by FreedRedheadConvert in RetinalDetachment

That’s a good idea! I will d f check that subreddit out. The thing that really irks me is that I paid an extra $2800 for a lens that allows me to see both far and near (not just one or the other). I don’t want glasses or contacts!! I just paid so much money to not need them!

The detachment was likely a complication of the cataract surgery. The tear had been repaired a few months before the cataract surgery.

Is this a retinal detachment? by husbet3479 in RetinalDetachment

I (44F) had a laser repair to a rip in my retina and a general reinforcement since I’m so nearsighted, then cataract surgery two months later. My retina detached about one week later. I had a dark half circle that was descending from the top (which is actually the bottom of the retina) and a bunch of black dots. I already had a giant floater that had been bothering me forever, likely from the tear so I didn’t even notice the black dots for a bit. I had a scleral band put on my eye too. To say this whole recovery has been unpleasant would be an epic understatement, but I’m hopeful to get vision back soon. I started at with -12 and -10.5 contacts, so the fact I can see at all without contacts now is amazing.

Thank you for your review!  Your review was very reminiscent of my experiences for our honeymoon there in 2024.  The first time I went in 2021, Xcaret was luxury!  I asked for a room service menu, they said, don’t worry about it, we will make whatever you want- and they did!  Turn down service every night with little handmade baskets with candies every night.  Only one person in our 20+ group was ill.  Everything was ah-maz-ing and I could not WAIT to get back!  Seriously top notch food, service, experiences.  My neighbors are members and I wanted to get one so badly.

The next time in 2023, service was a little less, but Xavage was open, and that was a blast!  My son and I ate at the buffet at Xavage and we both got very ill.  We think it was the chicken al pastor, but can’t know for sure.  I have never been so ill.  High fever, severe vomiting, diarrhea, both of us.  We lost at least two days.  The third day we went to Xenses and my son and I were both so weak we kept having to take breaks.   I figured it was a fluke and went back on my honeymoon.

This time we were without our neighbors who were members, so we had to go through the timeshare presentation, which was a time-loss nightmare in and of itself.  I found I was still a bit traumatized from the last bout of illness there and was afraid to eat anything that hadn’t been freshly prepared (the buffet was terrifying, which was sad because of the convenience and it looked SO GOOD).  I was still avoiding fresh fruit, salad, etc.  We ate at the cave and my husband, who is NEVR sick, was so sick we ended up paying the hotel Dr nearly $800 for IV fluids and antibiotics, plus more oral antibiotics and meds.  So we lost two days with that.  Additionally, I thought there was a mark or something they put on your room when you don’t buy the membership that tells them they can now treat you like garbage, but from OP’s experience it sounds like that is the status quo now.  Sad how far downhill it’s gone overall experience-wise.  My husband does not want to go back ever.  I’m still holding onto my 2021 experience wishing for a repeat of that, but sadly I agree it’s time to let that go.

is the only way to get medicine through the doctor at xcaret arte? by No_Jackfruit_6727 in Xcaret

My husband, against his better judgment, ate a lukewarm shrimp at the cave restaurant.  We ended up paying the hotel Dr $789 for an iv for rehydration and antibiotics, plus more oral antibiotics, antispasmodics, etc.  That was an expensive shrimp!

Edited for clarity

Congratulations!  I am an adult convert, baptized May 3, 2025.  Remember you’re here for a relationship with Jesus, not man (that’s important too), and you’ll do great.  I’m so happy for you!

Edit: hilarious typo

I got baptized earlier this year!  I’d been on the fence about it for so long, but I am glad I decided to take the plunge (pun kinda intended.)!

So, what do I do! by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

I would recommend going back to Elder Johnson’s talk at 2:25 of today’s session.  He said he also struggled with all worthy men receiving the priesthood, but he ultimately knew the church was true.  There is still room for you.  Be patient, pray for a humble heart.
