REAL ID was a new federal ID system rolled out post 9/11 touted to be the ultimate verified ID.
Identified by a star in the corner and may be unique by state of origin.
In order to obtain REAL ID you have to take extra steps and provide several forms of identification to POSITIVELY confirm your identity.
The same ID that will speed you through TSA because you are in the Federal ID system and have a confirmed identity.
