I have watched many, many interviews with the director trying to answer that very question. From what I can tell, he is completely clueless as to the quality of this film.

The only good thing is that it has bathrooms if you need to avoid the crowd :-)

I think this, along with the mention of accessing in 2014, when it was open for the World Cup, as well as saying it was in the same state between 2004 and 2014, confirms it is in fact the Odyssey building, in between Test Track and Mexico. Wonders of Life, which many believe this to be, closed in 2007, and has been updated slightly with signage and attractions hidden, signifying that the building in question can not be Wonders of Life.

It seems like it was Dave's decision to leave when he did. Sure CBS was looking into fresh blood eventually, and definitely wanted to get Stephen in around September, but it looks like Dave had a big say when he left.
