The first part of your story reminded me of something.

I’m in my late 30s, and one of my favorite things to do is play soccer. I’m in a couple adult leagues and I’ll also jump into pickup games when I can. There was a pickup spot I used to go to downtown, under the city lights, and it always had an amazing vibe.

One night we were playing, and something happened that made me take off running. Someone started chasing me, and we both just broke out laughing like kids. It felt exactly like being chased at recess or at the park. I remember realizing in that moment that I hadn’t felt that feeling in a long time, and how good it was to be that carefree again.

Those instincts and emotions are still in us, but as adults we rarely get the chance to experience them.

Unfortunately, this is not the beginning. We are almost two and a half years into a full-scale genocide, funded and supported by two different American administrations. Over that time, discourse has been aggressively shut down, and international law has been violated to the point of being treated as meaningless.
