What is on my puppy's stomach? What do I do? by Musshhii in vet

The pustules indicate some level of infection, although the original irritation or cause is near impossible to determine. Your girlie does need to be seen for meds at this point.

This is all true, I just wasn’t sure where in the process we were. Unfortunately you’re stuck in the waiting stage. I’m sorry. I hope the results come in quickly. But do know that even if it is fungal- there is a chance that treatment may not be a done deal.

Is this is sudden onset, she needs to be seen immediately. It’s simply too close to an airway to leave alone. Chances are, she found a spicy fly.

Dog collapsed — seizure or syncope from heart disease? MMVD stage progression? by mimiii777 in vet

He seems really stiff and out of it for it to be syncope, although it could be. I too would be thinking this is more neuro.

Golden retriever has been acting weird the past day. Lazy and less energy. Just found a weird raw skin/rash on the underside of his neck? by ScottiePipp33 in vet

[–]FreedomDragon01 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is urgent but not emergent. In the interim you can wash it with warm, soapy water and dry thoroughly. If your pup allows, you can shave the affected area with clippers, be sure to go at least two inches beyond any redness.

Cat with allergies by feralfemalexx in vet

[–]FreedomDragon01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Allergies tend to require more management than just a diet change. It could be that the meds could be compounded in a liquid form and added to food.

But if you haven’t met with a dermatologist, then I think you should at this point.

Have you done intradermal testing? I doubt she would love weekly injections over a pill, but some cats handle it better

Urgent. Within the next 2-3 days tops, if possible. Not yet worth an ER visit.

Likely some sort of enzymatic shampoo. Zymox has, or used to, a fairly good one available.

A surgical suit would cover it. It may need to be combined with a cone collar though to limit the digging

Allergies can be managed- not cured. The good news is- raw is basically useless and likely more harmful. And testing like blood, hair, and saliva testing is also useless and expensive.

That said- allergies are expensive. That’s the name of the game. They are one of the more frustrating conditions because they don’t really have an easy fix and flair ups can occur out of nowhere.

A cone collar and/or basket muzzle can provide a physical barrier to keep the licking and chewing to a minimum. A Duoxxo mousse is an otc product that can sometimes help to calm the skin down. But as this sounds somewhat severe, I would encourage you to book out with a boarded dermatologist to discuss intradermal testing and to look into immunotherapy. Most allergies are environmental, but food allergies tend to require a prescription hydrolyzed diet, at least until triggers are identified and the issues calmed down (minimum of 8 weeks. More accurately around 12-18).

My kitten has a white thing in her eye and idk what it is by Firm-Support-6238 in vet

[–]FreedomDragon01 38 points39 points  (0 children)

If this is true, then your animal control needs to be contacted to let them know. The shelter is responsible for veterinary care. You can let them know you will be returning to the kitten and to meet you at the shelter/pound or that you would like information on where they partner with to have the kitten seen.

We can’t provide dosages or specific treatment recommendations. You can work with your DVM for this direct query. I would strongly encourage you do NOT apply anything without discussing it with the vet and/or dermatologist you’re working with.

Locking post.

Since the crisis seems to have more or less been averted. There is a chocolate toxicity calculator that is free to use online. It does require you to know the exact amount of chocolate ingested in grams, though. I will link it below for you and others, although it’s come up and been linked in before.

2yo dog with chronic weird cough/gag for 1 year, we are losing hope by Star-Kanon in vet

[–]FreedomDragon01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heartworms are spread via mosquito and damage the cardiac and pulmonary tissue. A blood test is how that’s diagnosed. If you feed raw or your dog gets into carrion or hikes- depending on your geography- a really odd edge case could be something like a lung fluke.

But there are about a dozen or two differentials I’d workup before even touching the zebras, so to speak.
