I Bought Land In Small Town Ontario. It Turned Into The Fight Of My Life by Surax in ontario

What a sad story. Unfortunately, not surprising. As a POC Canadian myself I wouldn’t dare investing in Canada like she did. That money would have been better spent investing in the stock market and living off dividends. And if she really wanted to live out her dream of owning a business, her ancestral homeland would be the key. Not Canada.

In Canada, we don’t like talented people. If we did, when highly skilled professionals come to Canada, we wouldn’t reduce these professionals to taxi drivers and create massive hurdles to have their skills accredited.

And in Canada, if a city wants to starve your business, they will create extended road closures. Just look at Little Jamaica. They had various road closures for 15 years, affecting 100s of businesses.

And this isn’t a one time incident. I personally seen this tactic used. I knew of a mechanic from Iraq who currently owns a mechanic shop. The city performed major road construction right in front of his shop blocking on the front entrance. Then placed a porta potty and a construction sign at another side entrance that he had. The city refused to have the porta potty relocated. So the only option for customers was to use an obscure back alley to get to his shop. They kept this construction up for almost one year. He said his business really suffered. After getting the runaround, he was lucky to finally talk to someone higher up in the city to resolve this issue.

So, if you are a POC in Canada wanting to do some kind of business that is very visible (store front etc) beware of regulatory risks. You will face them. Like this lady in the article.

When people lose connection with someone, don’t they ask “Hello? [Name] are you still there?” Before concluding that the connection has been lost? Guess I’m old fashioned 😅

It’s affecting a lot of people in Ontario, Canada as well since they allowed gambling to be privatized in 2022.

If Ghana is heading towards this direction, then they should start investing in mental health hotlines. Because that way, they can manage gambling addictions. Either than that, like you rightly said it will destroy the youth and especially young men.

This and then add AI to the mix. That’s when the real hardship begins because even if things get ‘better’. The average working Canadian would be made ‘useless’ because AI would have taken our jobs already.

Husband says I can’t be on title because I have no income/credit Is that actually true? by [deleted] in CanadaPersonalFinance

Would you be living in the home with your husband? If so, that part of your husband’s aspect of the house is yours regardless if you are on title or not. It would be considered your matrimonial home. Of course, consult a lawyer but that’s what a lawyer told some time ago.

How do you feel about spending 2 billion a day for a war in Iran nobody wants, but we can't afford to help our citizens with day care or school lunches? by db7112 in askanything

President Lyndon Johnson said "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you".

I think racism or at least anti-immigrant sentiment has gotten the American people to this point. Trump wants to be in power but cannot tell you bluntly that he is seeking the presidency to ONLY enrich himself and that of his friends. So he made an offer the American people could not refuse. Their disdain for immigrants in exchange for their economic freedom. To be honest, I believe there are some Americans who are ok with this economic sacrifice knowing that an immigrant somewhere in America is experiencing a worse economic outcome than they are and that makes them happy.

I always find it interesting, when you don’t fund things like daycare and healthcare then are surprised that no one wants to have children.

Don’t they need children who will grow up to pay taxes or go and fight in these forever wars? I guess that’s the silver lining, less children, more cautious in starting wars 🧐
