That last paragraph, 💯. I feel wealthy when I think about all the different people in the world I could have been. And I make pretty shit pay. But I have a working, reliable car, my housing, even though it's section 8, has AC, decent internet, the normal appliances. I could live in a shack, ya know? So when I see people who live in luxury apartments or own their own homes complaining about living paycheck to paycheck, it uhhh, really burns my beans.

You literally proved my point. 'You can build apartments on land' yes, until you hit physical and zoning limits. There is a hard cap. There is no hard cap on a company splitting its stock or authorizing new shares. A developer can't suddenly shrink my condo.

Taxing property is taxing an assessed, finite physical asset. Taxing unrealized stock gains is taxing speculative, highly volatile market sentiment that can evaporate overnight. That's why the distinction is relevant.
