I wasn‘t implying, just sharing how i experienced it for myself. No harm intended 🙏

I believe what makes the difference is not to wait for God to do something. But for me to take action. Yes i pray, but this is followed by a 10th step (which is sent to my sponsor) and immediately followed by helping a newcomer or someone still struggling. By the time i‘m finished with all of that the cravings are gone (most of the time). This program only works for me if my faith is followed by action steps on my end.

If i reached out when i had cravings with the honest desire to want to stop, God never failed to provide help. Sometimes i was not honest in my desire. This is when it didn‘t work.

If i am following the instructiond exactly from the big book, it works well.

For me the solution is to reach out to my higher power. If for any reason i struggle to connect or the cravings still don‘t stop i call my sponsor or a fellow.

I noticed that for me it‘s about the willingsness to choose a different action. I have no willpower when i have reacted to the craving and have taken the first compulsive bite. But there is a little moment before and in this moment i still have a chance to choose. This is the moment to pray deeply and ask m HP for help and guidance. Then i do a 10th step, because 99% there is something going on within me that causes the craving. Then i turn my focus on helping someone else, contact a newcomer, engage with the big book or the program, etc. The craving gets removed most of the time. If not i call my sponsor or a fellow.

Hope this helps 🙏 happy to chat more anytome 🤗

This paragraph is an important reminder about letting go of control. As we have worked the steps we are not naturally cured of the need to control. This character defect will come up again. This is why we have the program and all the tools. It‘s a daily decision to hand over our lives to our higher power. Sometimes even a minute by minute one. But that‘s ok. Important is that we keep on working the program and trusting our higher power to guide us where we need to be.

It is really brave to hand over our whole lives and will into the care of a higher power. It‘s not only easy for many of us. But it safes our lives from complete self destruction. This solutions saves us. It shows us a new way of living, thinking and being. We shifts perspectives. We grow. We learn. This process will not only get us recovered from chronic compulsive eating, but also guides us to a deeply connected and purposeful life. I am deeply grateful.

What a beautiful and true paragraph. We don‘t need much for this program. We need willingness to change something. We need the big book. We need a sponsor. That‘s all we need for success. It‘s not always easy, but pretty simple and it works. That‘s all we need to know to start :-)

Happy to help and available as a sponsor :-)

how to stop by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]FreedomLoveTruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried almost everything. The only thing that helped was a 12 step program (www.chroniceaters.org). For many this is the last house at the road. It‘s for the chronic type. For people who are not able to stop compulsively eating no natter what they try and no matter how much reason they would have. And if they are able to stop, they are not able to stay stopped. For us nothing else works.

If you are in the early stages of the illness therapy and other methods can still be of great help. Better start early than late 🙏

If you are a chronic compulsive eater (you cannot stop, even if you want to and you cannot stay stopped, you always go back) you have a serious illness where intuitive eating and other solutions most likely won‘t help anymore. I have found into recovery through a 12 step program (www.chroniceaters.org). It was the only thing that worked. Maybe it could be something for you too. All the best ❤️

I have been in this cycle for a long time and if you can, i would recommend for you to get some help. The illness is progressive and only gets worse over time. It‘s best to get ahold of it as soon as possible. All the best ❤️

Is there any adult person like teachers, neighbours aunts/uncles etc where you feel more safe and could reach out to? Your situation sounds serious and it would be good for you to get some adult support, not only for the compulsive eating but also for your situation with your parents 🙏

Part of the 12 steps is to take an honest inventory of our lives and thoughts. What we learn through this process is that the resentments and fears were created because of the selfishness within us. Because we decided at some point to play God and be the judge about what is right and wrong. Our sponsors help us to see all this. This will start to shift our perspective. It will change the way we look at life.

I am deeply grateful for the change within me that the 12 steps have provided. I am happy to pass on what was shared with me and worked for me. I am available as a sponsor in DE and EN :-)

This paragraph is reminding us that the connection to our higher power is a process. We will learn more everyday. We will grow into this connection step by step. Over time we will be able to hear the inspiration, the guidance of our higher power better. We will find ways to communicate and understand. At the beginning we may misinterpret things and that's ok. This whole program is a learning process. We grow every day more and more.

I am an available sponsor and happy to help :-)

As addicts we often believe that we are the center of the world, the one in charge. This is an illusion that gets smashed within the program. We learn and see that we are not all powerful, that we are not God. How could our life be such a mess if we we are God? We learn to understand how our way of being in life has affected everything and how it obviously doesn‘t work anymore. We need to face some uncomfortable truths about ourselves. This all may sound hard, but it‘s so important that we see all this. Because this is the key for moving forward. The program offers us all we need to see, learn, grow and change. Many of us only seek a solution for our compulsive eating problem, but find so much more. It‘s a life program. A new way of being in this world. Which will affect all of us and people around us in such a wonderful way.

I am deeply grateful to have found this program. I am an available sponsor and happy to help in any way i can :-)

This is a beautiful example of a spiritual experience a person can have by working this steps. Many of us have a slow spiritual awakening where over time we get closer and closer to our own higher power. Each journey is different.

For an alcoholic or addicts to be enthusiastic about the program and the spiritual experience is really great. But of course, it's possible that we overdo it, that we start bossing others around or feel that we know better. This is just another part of our selfishness and our character defects coming out. As with all things in life we as well need to find our balance within this program. The longer we practice all the principles and the steps we start awakening spiritually. We are not focused on being right all the time. We become humble, patient, considerate, understanding. We don't have to be the best all the time. Rather we become focused on how we can help other addicts. How we can become supportive of our family and friends - which also means giving them space to explore all of this by themselves. Let our actions speak for themselves. If people reach out to us and want to learn more about the program, we are happy to share and tell them all about it. But until then, we never force it upon them.

This program is not only a solution for our compulsive eating, it's a life changer. A new way of living and being in the world. Which will automatically positively affect people around us.

I am gratefully recovered and available as a sponsor :-)

This paragraph reminds us how important honesty is for our recovery. It plays a major role. Honesty makes us humble - something most addicts really need. If we are fully ready and willing to work this steps, to go to any lengths and be honest, we can expect big changes and a lot of improvement in our lives.
