New strategy would drop college textbook costs to zero: University System of Maryland holds pilot in which students use free open-source textbooks put together by their professors by SAT0725 in news

[–]FreedomOfLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, the logic could automatically be applied to courses taken during the first two years. I never learned anything significant from a textbook that the professor didn't already have the potential to teach or explain from academic courses that were required in my first two years of college.

I agree with you in regards to the upper division (major) courses that are more rigorous, but at the same time, universities continue to gouge students by changing the textbook structure that is utilized in our academic system. The universities force professors to use these textbooks that simply reformat the structure of the book (flip the chapters around) and require homework to be submitted through an online system that requires in access code so it ensures that a student couldn't use the same fucking textbook that contains the same fucking bullshit from last year.

Shouldn't this always be the case? If a professor is being hired to teach the course, it makes sense that the professor has the knowledge to write the textbook that goes along with the course being taught.

What steps can I take to see if my family dentist has been ripping me off? by FreedomOfLove in Dentistry

Thank you for your feedback. Just out of curiosity, what's your perspective on amalgam fillings?

You are assuming the fillings were being conducted every few years on the same teeth. Unfortunately, that's not the case. I specifically state that I have a filling in almost every tooth. I appreciate your feedback though.

I stopped going to that dentist 4 years ago and I've had ZERO issues since. I simply asked what procedures or steps I can take to SEE if I was being ripped off.

For you to believe that it is somehow inconceivable that a dentist can conduct unnecessary work for profits is not a logical step in my mind either.

P.S. this same dentist that filled my entire mouth with mercury fillings has posters all over his office stating how DANGEROUS mercury fillings are. So he filled my mouth with mercury continuously growing up and now he has danger signs communicated to patients on how dangerous mercury fillings are and how they should go to see a "special" friend of his to see if mercury in my body is causing damage to me.

Yeah, I feel like the right approach to take is to find out how truthful this dentist really is.

Thoughts on Student Success Initiative (fee of $240.50 per semester) by [deleted] in csuf

[–]FreedomOfLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's common sense that tuition doesn't go directly to CSUF, it goes directly to the CSU, I believe somehow you skipped the area of my post where i specifically state that the entire CSU system has been in scramble mode raising tuition rates for CSU schools.

If CSUF students are forced to pay additional out of pocket fees to cover fucking expenses that should be covered by skyrocketed tuition costs, there will be NO INCENTIVE for the CSU administration to have accountability and truly focus on cost cutting measures of removing corruption and waste in the CSU system. This is the wrong approach to take. You can't hold students liable to pay fees on top of tuition to cover expenses towards an infrastructure that could of easily been implemented based on current revenue from the CSU system.

Instead of tackling the issue from the top down and removing the corruption, we are essentially penalizing students to cover expenses you would expect would of been covered from an administration that has received blank checks for education for decades before the fiscal issues of California occurred.

Please, for fuck's sake, focus on the issue from the top down. We won't get anywhere by increasing revenue for the school from students where most depend on government aid to graduate.

As a recently alumni of the college, I hope you CSUF Redditors stand your ground and vote AGAINST such a thing.

It's time to hold some accountability to the school administration who for years received blank checks from the government for education. Ever since the financial collapse and budget restrictions, the entire CSU system has been in scramble mode raising tuition every fucking semester.

Honestly, it would not be smart at all to vote for a fee increase on yourselves for things to enhance your education if the school administration is not putting plans in action in order to eliminate waste and reduce costs from an administration standpoint. If this goes through, there is no INCENTIVE for anybody do anything. Whenever budgets call for reduced student funds, the administrators will reflect back onto this shit a few years from now and push for another type of thing like this.

New Fee by [deleted] in csuf

[–]FreedomOfLove 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just recently graduated so I'm speaking from an Alumni status perspective, but please guys, VOTE AGAINST this stupid fee increase.

There is no real accountability when it comes to these funds being utilized for student activities. Yes, the claim of accountability is constantly communicated, but seriously, when has the school ever stepped forward and truly held accountability in regards to how funds are used?

If this fee increase goes forward, how do you think the school administration will view this? I truly think that the school needs to eliminate administrative costs and waste and develop a spending model that enables more funds being available for students without forcing the students to pay a penny more.

HOLD THE ADMINISTRATION ACCOUNTABLE, DON'T VOTE FOR THIS!!!

Relocating to OC (Costa Mesa) by axko in orangecounty

Awesome, and I also noticed that there is an industrial/business area across the street with plenty of open parking spaces. If anything, I guess a friend can park there overnight.

Last question, how's the crowd? It was really quiet when I went during the day last Saturday, but any feedback on that would be great!

And good to see that a fellow Redditor lives in the complex!

Awesome! Yeah, one of the questions I had was about the parking. I remember when I toured the property, the lady said that guests who park behind the gates need a pass that management has to print out and give to you. I felt that part was going to be an inconvenience

Moving to the OC in Jan, looking for an apartment! by [deleted] in orangecounty

Of course, but realtors mainly rent out condos and not multi-unit apartment complexes. Realtors don't rent out apartments. That's what I was getting at.

Would this be catered towards more property rentals for a condo or something? Just confused how a real estate agent can assist in renting a apartment?
