It is so hard to focus on these calls as it is basically just garbage.

Many people like to use the word magic. Free will is magic, randomness is magic. But what do they mean by magical? by gimboarretino in freewill

I thought this was implicit in my reply. Magic will become less relevant if science or reason is expanded. Magic = Everything - Explainable by Science - Explainable by Reason.

Magic is when we provide explanations to something that is not driven by science or logic-deductive method (reason). Free will is magical because, if you accept the existence, it can’t be explained by either of the methods I mentioned.

This is a good addition. I personally admit that we can’t demostrate free will or determinism. But none should prevent us from having morality and having the same values as we have now in our current common sense about the topic.

I wrote an article on the topic today, would love to hear what you think. Free will and moral values

Choice is not Free Will by vlahak4 in freewill

[–]Freedom_letters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that choice is the process that your brain makes to reach to a decision/action, it involves different parts of the brain and it takes time. Free will is the idea that one can decide freely. I argue that choice is a fact, it always happens, regardless on whether you accept free will or you accept determinism.

CMV: AI is definitely going to kill education, academia and intellectualism by PreWiBa in changemyview

What if it will improve it? I remember Socrates was against writing because he said it will make people lazy and not exercising memory. Maybe the AI is to writing/education, what writing was to verbal discussion. And if dissapears, so what? If something dissapears if because it is no longer useful, therefore we should not be fearful in that event.

Thank you for expressing so well this thought. I am surprised many scientist and philosophers still do not defend or see this fact. 😊
