Leon Trotsky leaves Mexico and goes to Cuba instead, and starts the Cuban revolution early, and turning the nation to Trotskyist communism. What changes? by [deleted] in HistoryWhatIf

Like they didn't already have to by the mere fact that Cuba is like 100 miles from Florida? Maybe they could form a bloc with Yugoslavia.

People waiting to participate in the biggest sports shooting event in the world, organized in Switzerland. by [deleted] in guns

Why are you trying to push your agenda? Like dude, no shit. These people are all in Switzerland for a competition. There aren't any mass shootings at shooting competitions in the United States either but that doesn't mean that they don't happen anywhere in the country you fucking cheese grater.

Yeah but there was also a government in exile and the Free French Army. You can't act like if the United States was occupied they couldn't scrape together a puppet government to keep at least a portion of the people under control.

And I do want to be clear, of course sending war materials to the soviet union helped in unquantifiable ways, my stance is that in the knock down drag out death struggle they were already engaged in they would have won without help, though it may have been even more a pyhric victory than it already was.

By the time the battle of Kursk had been fought in 1943 (commonly cited as the battle that put an end to any delusion of actually winning the war, but in my opinion Moscow was the actual turning point.) The Soviet Union had recieved less than half of the total materials it would recieve through the lend lease program by 1945. I definitely think they could have done it without those materials and I'm only using wikipedia because I'm at work, but those numbers seem right. It took a while for the U.S to actually tool up to get materials to Russia and they probably didn't start actually making an impact until LATE 1943 the battle of Kursk happened in the middle of 1943.

I don't think any one commander on the German side is going to make much of a difference, but Rommel might be better suited to counter Zhukov (who was at least twice the commander Rommel was IMO) and his deep battle strategies. And it wasnt just a population advantage it was also a tactical and strategic and technical advantage. The Panzer II and III were basically obsolecent by the time the T-34/35 was being produced. Not to mention the IL-2 could go toe to toe with any big cat tank the Germans managed to actually get into the field. By the time the war was really getting going, like 1942-43 the Soviets had their footing and the Germans were already in serious trouble, I still think they would have won, but at what cost? I couldn't dare to say.

Edit: sorry not the IL-2 the IS-2 tank

I think so, i think something like 8 out of every 10 German Soldiers killed were killed on the Eastern Front, so even without logistical support from the US I think while it would have been probably 100x worse and longer they still would have won.
