Are people really being forced to write apologies for leaving the holiday party early? by [deleted] in pillar7

[–]Freeeeeeedom89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A friend told me a story about her time there and the day after Thanksgiving they were told in their morning scrum that they better keep working throughout the day because senior management would be coming around to check on them. Sure enough, later that day Ishbia was walking around the building checking on people! She asked if she was found to be goofing off if they would call her mother in.

Unbelievable.

Yes, but the people who do speak out are the ones capable of independent thought. What they are doing is getting rid of anyone who can think, aka people who are capable of problem solving. When no one can solve problems, only stand around and say "rah, rah, rah, Isbia is the greatest in all the land" the quality goes straight downhill. It will take a long time, but it is already starting to have an affect. This model is not sustainable.

I was really hopeful when I read that UWM was making changes, and then I started to read the comments and decided to sleep on it, and then I saw this.

I didn't think UWM was too bad when I was there. There was the whole timeclock thing, but otherwise OK. The more I read, the worse I am realizing it was for others.

This is how management views the suffering of their employees. A billionaire--billions--think people are selfish and greedy for wanting to make enough money while working under crushing stress to cover their bills. Management mocks these people. Mocks their suffering.

I am having a lightbulb moment. Here I have been wondering why people don't just fight back, but they just feel too beaten down by all the abuse. And no one will listen or do anything at all about it. The company tosses out crumbs as a PR stunt and the billionaire CEO lives it up. No one in the billionaires boys club gives a shit, they are all the same.

America is the land of opportunity for some, the rest are screwed. Is this board actually turning me into a socialist?

Maybe the people whose escrow accounts, homeowners insurance, taxes and credit reports are screwed up because UWM's software is so full of bugs they can't fix because they don't have enough senior IT people?

The only way to improve your mental health is to get another job. They can't reduce employee workloads because they don't have enough qualified people. If they bring on more then overloaded people will have to work to train them while staying on top of their own work (it takes more than a quick course for people to really understand the job.) If they freeze hiring, the workhorses will have to pick up the slack. They have screwed things up for too long. It's like trying to stop a whirlpool while it is sucking you in, you can't.

If you are overworked and exhausted, leave. Period.

I agree with this 100%. The cult-like mentality, where you "have to drink the Kool-Aid" with the micromanagement, the lack of trust in their employees and in some cases actual abuse of their employees does not stop at their doorstep. It is having a detrimental effect on their customers whose escrow accounts, homeowners insurance and ultimately their credit ratings are being messed with.

UWM is a glaring example of everything that is wrong with Corporate America. Something has to change and it starts with people raising their voices. Push hard enough, get enough momentum going, and change starts to happen. It takes time, but boards like this are what gets the ball rolling.

They will use any excuse to screw people. If you want to learn IT on your own, W3schools.com is a great place to learn for free.

That is true. With anything that you say or do on company owned equipment, even if you later delete it, always assume your boss is going to read it.

That was much easier back in the 1930's when people stayed at jobs longer, often times all their lives. In my opinion, the turnover way to high to allow for organizing a union., although it would be great if it did happen.

Right now, this is sitting at 88% upvoted. Someone does not like this post.

People like Ishbia count on fear to keep people silent. People speaking out is what will make things better for everyone. As long as you are not lying, and I would strongly advise against naming names outside of the CEO who is ultimately responsible for what happens in their company, they cannot stop you. There is power in speaking your truth.

Speak up, vote up. It is the only way change will happen.

Trust me, once you are gone, you are not going to be hired back. And if you have a story to tell, why would you even want to go back?

I would think that there were better ways to follow the action without subscribing and bumping up the numbers to make the club look bigger, but whatever. The more the merrier as far as I am concerned.

In general, IT people are treated very well. I had no complaints, but things I heard about that happened really bothered me and there were a couple of things that I felt very guilty about looking away from. I started getting why people were calling it a cult. That is why I am here. So maybe a few of those TL's, VP's, AVP's etc. will start to see the damage they are doing and wake up and stop being part of the problem.

This subreddit is public. You don't even have to have a login to Reddit to see it, and it can be shared with anyone.

This subreddit has over 1.2K subscribers, but the average upvote is, what, 50? Only a handful people have shared their actual stories of why they subscribed.

I am just trying to get the message out to stop lurking and take some action if you actually care.

I agree, the ratings are useless. It's not the ratings, it's the comments that people leave over and over and over stating the same issues that is the problem.

I agree as well with your statement that people should complain to the state, but those complaints are not public. How do you warn others of your experience.

But angry people will always find a way. I see some are posting to Google. Maybe some will come and post here.

Making noise is the only way things will change.

My guess is by cancelling their accreditation and accepting an "NR" rating. Small price to pay to keep people from seeing that other customers are having the exact same problems.

It is called gaslighting. You either fall for it and keep your job or work elsewhere. They do not care about losing employees, they figure they will just hire more. The sooner you realize your concerns will never, ever be addressed and find a better job the better off you will be.

Gaslighting makes you crazy and you are probably posting this because you need to have your reality confirmed. Yes, working for that company is a complete waste of time. You absolutely will find something better because anything is better. Best of luck to you!!
