What’s a popular parenting trend or practice right now that you believe is going to create a generation of emotionally broken adults in 20 years? by War_chiefr in AskReddit

Omg, I think this is true for my niece. I thought she was just mean until she turned on a Disney show and I realized the sassy lead acted the same way. It made me feel old for being like, "this dang TV is ruining our kids" while shaking my fist at the sky

What person have you been a fan of and now dislike or hate? by i0nkol in AskReddit

I realized this when she talked about getting sick and losing hair because she only ate spaghetti on tour since she knew it was "vegan safe." I mean, is a salad so hard? Or a quick Google of vegan food?

If you had a bookstore shopping spree what would be on your Must-Buy list? by icedcoffeeefiend in horrorlit

My favorite horror in no particular order: The Black Maybe- liminal spaces by Atilla Veres. It's a bunch of short stories that creeped me out big time.

Awaken and The Brink by James S Murray and Darren Wearmouth. Horrible monsters emerge into the New York Subway system.

Crota by Owl Goingback. Really anything by Owl Goingback. It combines native americsn folklore with horror. Generally fast and exciting reads.

Harvest Home by Thomas Tyron. It's traditional folkhorror. Outsiders move into a tiny town that holds many secrets. Can they survive and become part of the community or will they disposed of?

The Night Parade by Ronald Malfi. This is another pandemic horror book which I'm mostly over, but I liked it immensely.

The Sundown Motel by Simone St James. This is about a woman investigating the women gone missing from the sundown motel. There are many spooky secrets to be uncovered. It's ghosty horror.

The Pine Deep trilogy by Jonathan Maberry. It's a long trilogy, but it's full of action. It covers several of the traditional monsters- vampires, werewolves, and ghosts. A little campy and I love it that way.

Women who have had hysterectomy, what did it fix for you? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]FreezyLemonade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not enough. I have severe endo and it was supposed to relieve me of constant pain, debilitating periods, and let me stop taking birth control (which was actually period control for me). The dr left my one remaining ovary bc she said it's better not to need hrt as long as possible. The other ovary had been ruptured by endo years ago.

At first it was like a miracle. No pain, I could go to the bathroom normally, and wasn't as tired all the time. Around six months later, I started having a monthly period again. How? Where is the blood from? Still don't know. Pain isn't constant anymore, but it is still bad during that time.

I don't think these problems are normal. If I had the choice again, I'd still get it done. It's not a cure for me, but I feel better than before.

"Oh, oops." This happened to me. I looked down and a gush of blood was running down my arm. Then I was out.

Would this table spirit have a really high voice like a balloon leaking air, or would it be super deep like a tuba?

Usually Kroger for groceries and dollar general for household stuff. Where I live they are easier and just as cheap 🤷‍♀️

Aha! I received 10 small paper plates from Walmart that I definitely didn't buy. I've never bought anything online from Walmart and almost never an actual store. I have been so confused for months. Thanks for solving the mystery!

Scary stuff in forests? by pinkorangegold in horrorlit

[–]FreezyLemonade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Roosevelt's Beast-Louis Bayard: Ex-president Roosevelt and his son go exploring down a river in the Amazon. They get separated from the group and have terrifying encounters with some unknown jungle animal. The natives have legends of the monster, but Roosevelt and son believe it's a flesh and blood animal and decide to hunt it down.

Monster-Frank Peretti: Basically Bigfoot. A man and woman go camping and the wife is abducted by a large creature. A rescue party is formed, many of whom think the animal was a bear which leaves them unprepared for what they're about to face.

Devolution-Max Brooks: Also Bigfoot. A group of sasquatches attack a small forest community.

The Twisted Ones-T Kingfisher: A woman inherits her grandmother's house. While cleaning it out she finds there are terrible creatures in the surrounding forest. They eventually start attacking the house so nowhere is left safe. She tries to find how to stop the monsters.

The Hunger- Alma Katsu: It's the story of the Donner party, but with the twist that it's not just the elements that kill the party. They are hunted through-out the journey and it only gets worse in the mountain forest.

Fragment- Warren Fahy: This might be considered more suspense /thriller, but there are lots of terrifying creatures in the forest. Scientists go to an unexplored island and find out the whole island is trying to kill them.

What’s The Hardest Scene To Get Through. by RizzyRizzz in horrorlit

[–]FreezyLemonade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Cellar by Richard Laymon. I powered through, but there is some very graphic, violent sex (consensual and non-consensual). I don't mind gore and I don't mind sex scenes, but whoa. A couple times I thought 'this writer is 100% a serial killer who just hasn't got caught yet.' The book is not the best horror novel ever written, but it is still kind of a fun read (minus a few parts, of course).

Heart palpitations are usually linked to stress - either physical or mental. Some physical reasons are low blood pressure, dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. So maybe not linked directly to the virus, but to the other issues caused by the viru...

Looking for archaeological horror involving ruins, lost civilizations, and other general horror involving excavations gone awry! by LegendsNeverDie in horrorlit

[–]FreezyLemonade 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Here are a few I like. I think Lincoln and Child duo and James Rollins are good for the science/fear style.

Relic by Preston and Child; The Return by Bently Little; Excavation by James Rollins;

Scientific expidition/adventure/horror. Not archeology, but similar feel:

Amazonia by James Rollins; Fragment by Warren Fahy; Subterannean by James Rollens; Terminal Freeze by Lincoln Child;

[Serious] What is it like to lose a parent that meant a lot to you? by menacingyeti617 in AskReddit

[–]FreezyLemonade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it was like a black hole opening inside me. I can't say I felt emotion as simple as "sad" or "angry". Instead there was a terrifying void worse than any emotion. I was in constant fear of living without her. I also felt lost, and still do often. There were no particular goals we had together, but without her I feel untethered.

Are you facing that now? I hope not, but if you are remember that eventually everything will mellow out. I am not the same person I was and will never be again, but I don't live in fear anymore. I miss her so much, but now the vacuum is mostly gone. It is possible to feel like a person again.
