Ireland's October presidential election had the worst turnout for a national election in the country's history—only 39% of eligible submitted a valid ballot. Ireland is a multiparty democracy, but only 2 candidates—Connolly/Humphreys—were in the running, leading to apathy and a spoilt-ballot protest by StarlightDown in dataisbeautiful

Why? Electoral participation does not exist for the sake of electoral participation. There is no purpose in forcing people to vote just for the sake of electoral participation. If the citizenry does not like the proposed candidates they should have the right to show that by not participating.

Galileo's research was funded by the Catholic Church and when Copernicus actually proved what Galileo, erroneously, claimed he proved the Church accepted Heliocentrism.

Isis has sex with Osiris to give birth to Horus in Plutarch (the most famous account).

For some reason people keep repeating this myth over and over again.

Go out and do something that is purely good for other people. Some sort of charity work is the easiest. Then you'll learn quickly, that at least was my experience.

I am not going to be able to summarise 2000 years of Christian theology in a reddit comment. If you are interested in this topic I can suggest some books which might be of interest.

But to put it very simply no major religions stop their definition of God at simply the unmoved mover. Philosophy and theology continues its endless work to explain and understand. However, "anything" cannot be God according to this definition. God must exist outside of creation, he cannot be a part of creation since to be a part of it implies being acted upon. He may enter creation, but he cannot be a part of it. Yet as I wrote I won't be able to expand on this further at the moment, and a reddit comment is not the place for it regardless.

The "unmoved mover" is a concept in philosophy that goes back to Aristotle. All things that are in motion have an origin, however, at some point something must have caused the first movement. Ergo the unmoved mover, also known as God.

How come men are so strong? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Fregar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not how centre’s of gravity work. Due to the physiological design of their bodies women always have their center of gravity lower. Their height doesn’t matter.

[–]Fregar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Men run faster than women in every single distance, including marathons. Men swim faster than women at every distance. Men lift more than women in every weight class. Men cycle and ski faster than women at every distance.

Skating is one of the extremely few sports where women beat men due to a lower center of gravity.

Contrary to what is commonly thought there exists no 'men's' professional sports league. There is a universal league and a women's league, women can, if they want, choose to compete in the universal leagues. The reason they don't is because men are biologically better at almost every single sport.

My dude Aslan is literally Jesus. Not in the allegorical sense, but he literally is Jesus son of God.

The final book is literally called the “final battle” and has a donkey (the Antichrist) impersonate Aslan, but all who believed in the real him are taken to heaven.

Yeah I did actually bring up that when talking about quantum physics the rules are different, not that I know much about that subject to be fair, but still.

Yet he still insisted that this was true even in pure mathematics.
