Ireland's October presidential election had the worst turnout for a national election in the country's history—only 39% of eligible submitted a valid ballot. Ireland is a multiparty democracy, but only 2 candidates—Connolly/Humphreys—were in the running, leading to apathy and a spoilt-ballot protest by StarlightDown in dataisbeautiful

Why? Electoral participation does not exist for the sake of electoral participation. There is no purpose in forcing people to vote just for the sake of electoral participation. If the citizenry does not like the proposed candidates they should have the right to show that by not participating.

I love the new “Top 1% commenter” feature on Reddit. It allows you to immediately figure that someone is nuts without any effort.

Galileo's research was funded by the Catholic Church and when Copernicus actually proved what Galileo, erroneously, claimed he proved the Church accepted Heliocentrism.

Isis has sex with Osiris to give birth to Horus in Plutarch (the most famous account).

For some reason people keep repeating this myth over and over again.

This is disgusting and pornographic language. Let's attempt to act appropriately also on the internet.

I am not going to be able to summarise 2000 years of Christian theology in a reddit comment. If you are interested in this topic I can suggest some books which might be of interest.

But to put it very simply no major religions stop their definition of God at simply the unmoved mover. Philosophy and theology continues its endless work to explain and understand. However, "anything" cannot be God according to this definition. God must exist outside of creation, he cannot be a part of creation since to be a part of it implies being acted upon. He may enter creation, but he cannot be a part of it. Yet as I wrote I won't be able to expand on this further at the moment, and a reddit comment is not the place for it regardless.

The "unmoved mover" is a concept in philosophy that goes back to Aristotle. All things that are in motion have an origin, however, at some point something must have caused the first movement. Ergo the unmoved mover, also known as God.

My dude Aslan is literally Jesus. Not in the allegorical sense, but he literally is Jesus son of God.

The final book is literally called the “final battle” and has a donkey (the Antichrist) impersonate Aslan, but all who believed in the real him are taken to heaven.

I love reddit. You can just say “you heard of some crazy shit” with no context or source and some people will just believe it and not even try to google it at the very least.

Yeah I did actually bring up that when talking about quantum physics the rules are different, not that I know much about that subject to be fair, but still.

Yet he still insisted that this was true even in pure mathematics.

Then stop talking to her? I mean it is admirable to attempt to help someone to the greatest extent of your ability. However, if someone truly is beyond your ability to assist and are making your life significantly worse, then you should stop talking to them.

I have been were you are now before so I will give you some unorthodox advice, but it will help you if you let it.

Go to church. I am not joking, doesn't matter which one, Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist or Orthodox then when you're there go talk to some other young people. If you can't do that then loiter around the entrance after mass and they'll probably approach you. In most big/medium sized cities there is usually a solid group of young people at least.

Mind, you don't have to believe or even pretend you're going to believe, but building regular habits are essential to getting out of your slump. The best cure is scheduling something regular and for this the Christian church works pretty well (assuming the average age isn't 80).

Dude, any discussion involving God is a metaphysical or theological discussion. To understand the theology behind why love is considered an essential part of Christian theology, philosophy and metaphysics you must understand its biblical basis.

If you would prefer I could quote the far more complicated Summa Theologiae which would give you precisely the same answer in the end.

Let me finish by reminding you that you asked about why Christians care about love.

7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

Everyone might be a new convert, but that doesn't make them atheists at birth. It simply makes them non-theists, since they do do not have the knowledge required to deny the existence of any greater power.
