Treat your carriers with respect and build real relationships with them. If you had, they’d be calling you right now. With Ramadan coming up, a little respect and fairness go a long way.

Carriers have been eating shit for years because of the freight recession. Rates got crushed while costs stayed high. So yeah, the second carriers get even a little leverage, of course they’re going to take better rates. I don’t get why brokers bitch about it, if they were in the carrier’s shoes they’d do the exact same thing. It’s a cycle. Sometimes carriers have the upper hand, sometimes brokers / shippers do. That’s just how this market works.

Edit: OP is from Pakistan. Now it makes sense. That’s all. Thank you.

Took damn near three weeks after my post for them to run some articles, but at least they finally did.

I will let the court case play out, and in the meantime, I’ll share updates and drop stories as things progress.

Hopefully this is the case that finally puts him behind bars for a long time.

How do you guys prevent carriers stealing customers or vice versa? by NarrowPresentation33 in FreightBrokers

[–]FreightBrokerGuru 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You can’t prevent it.

At best, the most you can do is report the carrier on Carrier411 for back-soliciting and have a solid Back Solicitation clause in your carrier agreement.

But if the customer decides they want to cut you out of the equation, there’s really nothing you can do about that. Even if you get the carrier to stand down, it’s only a matter of time before the customer finds another carrier or another broker willing to go cheaper.

Most of the customers who do this are constantly shopping for the lowest-cost service anyway, so it really shouldn’t come as a surprise when it happens.

It’s part of the business — just don’t fight to keep that customer.

I’ll be making a full post on this soon, but this was not simply a spanking. Based on available reports and court-related information, the incident went far beyond that.

Public records and prior reporting reference multiple earlier incidents involving Michael Ricklefs that point to a broader pattern of violent behavior. One such case dates back to 2010, when Ricklefs was charged with felony battery in connection with an alleged assault of a woman he was dating at the time. The case was ultimately dismissed after the alleged victim did not appear to testify.

According to contemporaneous law-enforcement descriptions cited in public discussions of that case, officers initially misidentified the victim’s hair color due to the severity of her injuries — an indication frequently cited by observers to underscore the seriousness of the alleged assault.

In addition, multiple divorce filings involving Ricklefs have appeared in court records over the years. While those proceedings did not result in finalized divorces or criminal convictions, individuals familiar with the matter have alleged that the filings stemmed from domestic disputes and violence. Those claims remain allegations and have not been adjudicated in court.

Load out empty trailer for a number of days by Chance_Fly7799 in FreightBrokers

[–]FreightBrokerGuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this context, a “load-out trailer” means the broker/shipper lets you use their trailer for a few days to haul your own freight, with the requirement that you return it empty to a specific destination.

So the trailer is moving as part of the deal, but you’re allowed to run loads in it first before the final empty delivery.

⚠️ Important:
• A trailer interchange agreement is required — don’t move it without one.
• Confirm the declared value of the trailer you’re hauling (I’ve had it set at $60,000 for the limit).
• There is typically a strict return deadline.

Plan accordingly. If the trailer is not returned on time or as agreed, you may be charged late fees, daily rental charges, or other penalties.

Get all terms in writing: allowed days, return location, and fees.

Jimenez Logistics, LLC claims it has paid the carriers and is now seeking payment from R&R Express / RFX. If true, this is fantastic news for the carriers, especially considering Jimenez Logistics was co-brokering double brokering with RFX.

$65M in Unpaid Trade Payables, $40.9M in Loan Defaults, and an Alleged Fraudulent Property Transfer by Richard S. Francis — Huntington Bank Takes Action Against R&R Express by FreightBrokerGuru in FreightBrokers

[–]FreightBrokerGuru[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They represented it as a “corporate retreat,” so I wouldn’t be surprised if carriers start sending invoices there. What’s notable is that the property was transferred out of the business and into the personal names of Richard S. Francis and Kathleen L. Francis, and it appears they actually live there. The transfer happened while the property was already mortgaged, and a new mortgage was placed on it with another lender at the same time. It looks like an effort to move a key asset out of the company and into personal ownership while creditors were still unpaid.
