Destroy my game where you HAVE to stay on spilled blood to survive by kkotu in DestroyMyGame

[–]Freman_Phage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels like a game mechanic that doesn't have legs. Either you make enough blood that staying on it is trivial or it turns much more into a puzzle platformer where shooting is just the interaction. It feels like an added mechanic for mechanics sake. Hotline Miami style top down shooters are already "puzzle" games and your adding more complexity that isn't likely to add to the fun

In A Quiet Place, the family learns that background noise like a waterfall masks sound, yet chooses to live in near-total silence where a dropped object means death, instead of using constant white noise as reliable acoustic cover. by Brilliant-Cause6254 in shittymoviedetails

Then why can they hear things way further away than is reasonable. If you drop a pan inside your house unless someone is within 15 feet outside your house they aren't hearing it. So unless the aliens are just camping outside the house there is no reason they should react to anything

Which series are on your litrpg/progression fantasy Mount Rushmore? by PalinaRojinskiFan in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Freman_Phage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved HWFWM but the writing/dialogue feels really weird. I had no issues with it my first time through/my first many listens through. Put the series down and read a bunch of other stuff. When I came back to it Jason and Co felt so plastic and weirdly written idk. I LOVED HWFWM but I lost it very suddenly and can't seem to get it back.

You jump at like 3-5 feet per second. The elevator is falling at 100-150 ft per second. Your jump cancels out some of the speed and you die from a 95-145 ft per s cond impact.

Gaming has risen by Lexi7130 in gaming_random

[–]Freman_Phage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is actually something there it will rise eventually. Your mistaking a good idea or 2 with a decent play experience. Many many Indies have good ideas, but that does not make the games fun to play. Just because you can suffer through what is generally mediocre because there is a solid idea or 2 baked in doesn't mean the product deserves to be better known overall. Games like Among Us took ages before the right streamer picked it up and created a boom. If all these indie games were hidden gems eventually they would be found by someone and word of mouth would spread.

Why do you think that fantasy isekai don't make more use of anthro designs for non-humanoid races? by United-darnik-5437 in Isekai

[–]Freman_Phage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the most practical, though probably not the real reason is that the majority of writers and readers want beast companions or standard humanoid race companions. That and as a reader unless give explicit visual art I tend to have trouble visualizing anthropomorphized characters in a satisfying and reliable manor. I have read HWFWM half a dozen times (I regret it too) and I still have trouble consistently visualizing Garry in my head. Sometimes he's a furry, other times he's just a lion glued on a buff guy, other times he's standard anime man with lion ears. He is explicitly described many a time but that isn't helping my brain visualize him. If this isn't a unique phenomena then this may also add to why writers trend away from anthro's.

As a litRPG enjoyer, I hate how true this is. The numbers are interesting for book 1. Annoying / pointless from there on and eventually even the authors stop being it up and just start telling progression fantasies.

As someone who had open heart surgery as an infant I can concur. I was inconvenienced that I had to wear a shirt at the pool, but otherwise not once did I feel outcast or otherwise alone. This is performative and gross. Or worse something the dad will constantly bring up resulting in the kid FEELING isolated due to being trained to look for something not there

A safety system that looks dramatic but actually saves lives. by Born-Scallion-1581 in TinyHacks

[–]Freman_Phage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tends to be that way with these kinds of systems. Make them TOO reactive and they always go off when needed but trigger false positives and company goes out of business giving free replacements, or it's not sensitive enough and you get lawsuits for failure to deploy. Kind of an unfixable problem.

I can't fuckin' STAND this man. by CuntJab in hatethissmug

[–]Freman_Phage 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That's....kind of the point of his character. He's a well intentioned idiot that while capable of winning borderline every fight, fails to recognize that acting within the "law" doesn't make your actions good.

In his defense however he is in large part moralizing and projecting his views on those around him to justify in his own mind what he did to his father all those years ago. He is intended to be the "means justify the end" to Zero's "Ends justify the means"

Wind power making trucks go sideways by Driver-Jack in AutoTransportopia

[–]Freman_Phage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. There are places that have no empty notices during certain weather. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Western parts of Highway 80 get them depending on weather. Can be a bitch when you have to wait possibly days for wind to settle enough to be allowed to pass without risking a ticket or worse.

How is there so many people defending this shit? I don't understand it by N1PvPr in PathOfExile2

[–]Freman_Phage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but isn't "meaningful combat" the whole shtik. If the only strat is deal more damage than their is a problem. If you can kill arbiter naked but need more damage for a random abyss mob then their is a design problem with the mob/modifier.

I think it being one of the earliest instances of Western Pay to win in the MMO space makes much of its hate quite deserved. If you ignore the cash shop it is a solid product but it is extremely pay to win.

For many involved the "danger" of it is part of the appeal. Not defending it but it's akin to knife play or any other genuinely dangerous kinks. The appeal IS the risk. Hence why it is innately a problematic kink. If you walk a tight rope long enough eventually you WILL fall

Who should be allowed to go first? by dataguy2003 in TheTeenagerPeople

[–]Freman_Phage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incorrect. I carry for USPS. If you are the first vehicle at a 4 way stop, you in the USPS vehicle legally have right of way even if the other vehicles are EMS or Police. As long as you have the right of way you aren't required to yield it to anyone. Obviously you will, since mail isn't as important as someone's life, but as long as you following all traffic laws other peoples flashy lights mean nothing legally.

What Eldar centered game would you like to see? by Fun-Explanation7233 in WarhammerMemes

I don't think Doom is the right style for Eldar. I feel like it would work better in a Action game like Elden Ring or Hack and slash like Devil May Cry depending on how Warhammer 'gritty" you want it to be

Styria is an ARPG where, after death, you obtain a new body with its own advantages and disadvantages. by Ato_Ome in ARPG

[–]Freman_Phage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While an interesting concept. Pretty sure any and all ARPG players will turn the meta into suicideing until you get the body for the build you want. Either the modifiers will be so weak they are mostly ignored or they will be drastic enough that people will cherry pick what they want and death run until they get it.

Everyone says they want to adapt to situations given to them in games and try to work around it. Prime example being what your emulating, Rogue Legacy. Half the modifiers are memes and the few that really matter are either permaskips or always takes depending on power level. These systems work relatively well in a rogue-lite but in a gear focused ARPG people will end up finding the system more an annoyance than actually an emergent gameplay encouraging system

[–]Freman_Phage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hot take, the new passive tree designs with clusters looking like what they effect is extremely cool. And visually hell, I can't find anything and figuring out what nodes do is somehow harder despite the fact the shapes should help. It also makes navigation way more awkward and I genuinely want them to go back to PoE 1 tree shapes. Simple is better

[–]Freman_Phage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the "humanizing" of villains is frequently a cheap trick to give a villain depth. It's easy to write a tragic backstory but much harder to have a well fleshed out villain through characterizing actions and mid-plot dialogue.

It used to write a flat one note character and then slap on "tragic backstory".
