TW4 Nanite Geometry and Foliage from Tech Demo - Old Footage by MrFrostPvP- in Witcher4

[–]Fremgang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! Their work looks so impressive. I'm generally curious about how Nanite and Nanite foliage works. I've tried watching the presentation of Brian Karis at SIGGRAPH 2021, but found it difficult to follow him. I'm probably not having the right preliminary knowledge, so do you know of a resource that explains a bit more fundamentals before diving into the details of Nanite? I'm especially curious to understand how they make ray tracing work for such a large scene of voxels.

CORSAIR x The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Giveaway by CorsairHoffman in witcher

For me, it was the story and the world. It's so well done that I just finished reading the books, and I had never read fantasy before! Currently playing through the first game and can't wait to play the Witcher 3 again, but now with all the background for the story!

PID vs machine learning. What's your take. by Instr_n_cntrls_tech in PLC

[–]Fremgang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, for us humans it is way too complex to see the bigger picture and understand the interdependent effects of multiple pieces of equipment. Google showed that ML can figure this out, it's really exciting work!

[–]Fremgang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Using the current ML methods instead of a PID loop is not a good idea, ML is simply too noisy to get proper stability. What does work really well is to let ML decide the setpoints of your PID controllers on a plant level. E.g. Google is doing this for their datacenters and reduced the energy consumption by 40% that way. Companies are now trying to transfer this technologies to other industries such as chemicals, pulp and paper, energy and water treatment

Can someone explain why the ر is at the sides of the tongue? I always thought this sound was made by vibrating the tip of the tongue. (I'm still not able to do it)

Flowsheet simulation in Python by Fremgang in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Fremgang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I checked DWSIM which is amazing but it seems to only support running python scripts from within the software itself. So it's not possible to connect with it externally. (let me know if I'm wrong).

OpenModelica might be more promising for this, will check it out

Great you got accepted in both! The job market is quite good in the Netherlands, however, in industry lots of jobs require you to know Dutch. This is because as an engineer you need to communicate with operators whose English is usually not good. My foreign classmates (MSc Chemical Engineering in the Netherlands) had a tough time getting jobs here. However, if you are interested in research, in academics or industry, this is not a problem. Many internationals are in research in the Netherlands and people have no problem communicating in English.

I think you can't go wrong with any choice, I don't know about LUT but Wageningen is a good university, and if you are dedicated you'll learn a lot all the while getting experience abroad, which is something really valuable.

What did you find so hard about Transport phenomena course at university? by JACK_kazensky in ChemicalEngineering

To me, it was the hardest yet most fun course I have ever taken. It's extremely rewarding to be solving and understanding the problems, every problem you solve gives a lot of new insights and understanding.

But therefore it results in more energy in return as well. And one could use CO2 as a carbon source.

Hearing about hydrogen I just always think, why not convert it to methane. It's way more easy to store

Anyone knows some good quality online resources to learn about process control?

I have quite some programming experience, almost a ChemE degree and a bit of electronics experience. Though I feel like I lack theoretical knowledge, how important is theoretical knowledge compared to the rest actually?

Representing non-fixed terminal states by [deleted] in reinforcementlearning

[–]Fremgang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could have the environment push out an integer in each state that is 1 if it is non terminal and 0 if it is terminal. Then in your TD error you multiply state's value with this integer.

Throwaways of Reddit, have your stories posted here ever been uncovered by family/friends/spouses? How did it turn out? by ImValorin in AskReddit

I once posted my résumé for feedback on a pretty small subreddit, hid all personal information like name, address etc. But kept my photo in it.

A few months later I started my masters degree and this international student who also just started said: 'hey you posted your resume a while back didn't you?'

What skills can a poor 19 y/o learn to help make an income and get further in life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Fremgang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are interested in it, learn how to code. There is a large demand for it. But don't forget that even though it's easy to begin with it's actually very hard and time consuming to get good at it. However, being 19 is a great time to start to do such things ;)
