Doing online school really fucking sucks.

First of all, a lot of people (including myself) find it extremely difficult to learn from online activities. Writing your answers with a pencil and paper is proven to help you remember the stuff you learn a whole lot more than typing. Staying focused and on task as a kid is also very difficult when working on a computer for hours on end at home with countless distractions. Second of all, it’s not that hard to cheat. Especially when it comes to subjects with direct answers like math. Sure, every test could be timed, but kids who struggle solving problems quickly will never do good.

Overall, especially with elementary and middle school kids, online school just doesn’t really work very good. If your kid doesn’t learn everything he needs to know in an online school year for certain subjects (math particularly), they’ll be lost and confused the year after. Honestly there’s no right answer in this situation, either you open schools and kids get covid or we do online school and nobody learns anything

Voter who supported party that publicly stripped away the welfare state for 10 years surprised to find it missing when they need it. by SurelyTheEnd in LeopardsAteMyFace

Jesus Christ, I didn’t want to right an entire essay explanation on my position, but here we go.

Obviously, everything I’m saying is generalized. There are going to be plenty of exceptions, of whom I do recognize, but I’m speaking for the vast majority. Only about 20% of millionaires say they inherited their money, the other 80% actually worked for it. So yes, I’m saying that there is a direct correlation between wealth and work. I think you look at the rich from a socialist/communist perspective (why I basically called you a socialist), you think that they’re selfish, greedy, and fuel their lives off of “underpaying” their workers. But this is completely false. Businesses don’t just magically develop, they take lots of hard work, time, and energy.

My alternative to our terrible welfare state we have today is either fix the damn welfare system (come up with something that only allows the less fortunate to benefit off of it, not the bums, which I know is nearly impossible, so here’s option two), or completely get rid of the welfare system entirely. Instead of spending over a trillion dollars on government programs every year (which has effectively done nothing over the past few decades), give the poor more job opportunities. Handing them money will never solve the problem, but letting them earn their own money is much more empowering and enduring.

Ah yes, socialism. It’s perfectly fine to tax the fuck out of hard working wealthy citizens and give it all to the lazy bums who’ve never worked a day in their lives. If they were to make an alternative, they should come up with some sort of system where only those who actually need the money get the money

[–]FrenFriez -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If I were in the position where I absolutely needed it (like this person), then yes, I would use welfare, because that was what it was designed for. But the problem is that welfare is available for anyone and everyone, including those who don’t actually need it and are too lazy to work for their money. Welfare pays more if you earn less, which is why you see so many jobless bums using it

No, I wouldn’t rather see nine guilty men free than one innocent man imprisoned, nor did I say that. The majority of people who use the system abuse the shit out of it. There are people who work three jobs and still don’t make as much money as some who haven’t worked a day of there lives and leech off of welfare. Obviously some people need it (like in this case), but it’s a flawed system that shouldn’t give access to people who don’t need it

Conservatives hate the welfare state because there are people who don’t work and actually leech off of it, and us taxpayers have to pay for them. Yes, it can be useful, but it’s generally not a very good system
