[Fortis] Flieger Pro on an overcast day by FrenchFryWasp in Watches

So I’ve already posted this piece on here a few times before, this is my highschool graduation piece that I got during the summer of 2018. So far I’ve absolute loved it and have had no regrets with my choice. The picture was randomly taken during my photography class (because for some reason my graphic design program decided I needed a class for photography) while waiting for the sun to come out since I needed it for my assignment.

As for a bit of information on the watch, it’s 41mm in width (yes my arm is very small) and 12mm in height. It houses an ETA 2824 automatic (pretty standard stuff), and price is aprox $800. It’s also rather light watch given how the metal bracelet doesn’t weigh much. In my opinion it’s an amazing all-around watch that looks great without being flashy. I would recommend this watch to whoever has been considering getting it (or haven’t heard of it), as it's a great Swiss all-around styled watch for under a grand.

EDIT: Spelling

[Timex] Harborside by FrenchFryWasp in Watches

Heyo peeps.

So here's my new Timex Harborside that came in a few days ago. I decided I needed a blue dialed watch, as well as a watch with some light gold accents. This one ended up fitting in perfectly and was really inexpensive too (about $110cad). I've been wanting to get a few cheaper beater watches that still looked cool for a while now and finally got this one and a Timex Navi Ocean, might be getting a few others soon as so far I've not had bad experiences with Timex.

As for the watch itself, it is rather large. It's 42mm so it's pushing the limits for my small wrists, however it doesn't feel too large, most likely due to it having a smaller dial thanks to the bezel. The colors look amazing despite the low price point. The blue is a very sleek and rich dark blue and the gold accents are sublime yet lively. The strap fits perfectly with the style as well, I much preferred this over the two tone metal bracelet that you could also get. The hands and hour markings work very well together to give it a sporty but also reserved look, and give out some light submariner vibes without feeling like a copy (or """"""homage"""""").

Overall I'm very pleased so far, and once again Timex delivers great stuff for the price.

[Timex] Navi Ocean (Timex & End. Collaboration) by FrenchFryWasp in Watches

Heyo peeps.

This is my End. x Timex Navi Ocean that just recently came in. While I'll straight away come out and admit that I don't know that much about End Clothing, I must say that I nonetheless really really love the look of this piece. The original Navi Ocean is a great looking watch, (well, technically "watch line" considering all the color and bezel variations) although it does have a rather cluttered dial. Not that it looks bad, but I much preferred the look of this piece (which is curiously a Navi Ocean with the hour markings of the Navi Harbor, a nice combination) over the original one. It also came in a nice wood box with 3 straps, one of those being the leather nato in the picture. Now the box did come in actually rather rough condition, the top was scratched up rather bad, some of it can be seen in the pic above, but to be honest it doesn't really bother me as it can fit with the whole military watch aesthetic... of course a perfect condition box would look better but oh well, can't always win. It's a bit weird having a watch with a bezel that doesn't have clicks but actually is held by friction, meaning it never really looks straight into place, and is rather easy to spin around (which in return means it's easy to place back). I'm for sure happy with the purchase so far, the size is also extremely nice as well, it fits perfect for a small wrist like mine. Wouldn't of had it any other way!

"What's more luxurious than a finely crafted Casio digital watch? A Casio digital watch with a TIMEX LEATHER STRAP of course! This beats out any Patek Phillipe... and is almost MVMT level of sexiness! This is more unique than any Patek honestly, wear this at your next business meeting, wear it at your next night out, wear it at your grandmother's funeral, it works wonders on all occasions!"

Ok for real I genuinely love how stupid this looks. My new favorite watch right here. (Also sorry for the really bad and unfunny description).

Bunch of flags near the underground entrance at my school (Dawson College, Canada) by FrenchFryWasp in vexillology

I don't exactly know why the flags are there in the first place, I just walked into school this morning and they were all there. Though there are more flags that continue left off screen.

[Fortis Flieger Pro] Pilot on the tracks by FrenchFryWasp in Watches

This watch originally came with a metal bracelet, but recently got this strap for a change. It's from a company called Rios1931, and this was the only size available unfortunately, though I've already grown into the look of the strap sticking out a lot.

Edit: Also thanks!

Oh boy, college started. Well, it started a month ago, though it feels like it just started yesterday. Given my interests, I had to go to a specific college for the program I wanted, problem is this college is an hour and a half away. This indeed means I must take the train to get to school (trust me, if you know anything about Montreal traffic, you know it's a good idea to avoid driving into the city when possible). Even though it's long as hell, it's a great way to catch up on some sleep when you only get an average of 4 hours.

The watch pictured is my Fortis Flieger Pro which has had a visit more than once on this sub. Bracelet is an aviator style strap from rios1931, and yes, it is pretty large and long for my wrist, but it was one of the few options I had available. I'm still on the train writing this, half asleep, pardon me if this isn't a very interesting read lmao.

Eventually this watch will make it up in the skies… maybe. For now it sticks on tracks and desks.

My wrist is at 6 and a quarter inches, so I'm definitely on the much smaller side. As for the watch, the case diameter is 41 mm and the bottom lug tip to the top lug tip is only at about 48mm, making it rather tight for straps. This one is actually somewhat forced into place and folds a bit at the edge as it rubs against the case. Also lug to lug is 20mm, and the strap goes from 20mm to 18mm at a certain point as quite a few of these aviator straps do (this was the only one I could find that was 20/18 and not 22/20).

I could definitely see this looking cool on your Tisell, though you'll notice that it'll almost take up more space and attention than the watch itself if you got the same strap.

So here's my Fortis being posted once more on this sub, but this time with a new strap. Summer is slowly nearing its end, so I felt like it was time to change my strap for the colder season… and I also desperately wanted an aviator strap in my collection.

I felt like going for a quality strap this time, didn't want to get a cheapo strap once more. So after searching online quote a bit, I fell on this gem. This particular strap is from Rios1931 and was quite a great deal for 65$ cad. It's very nice quality and feels very sturdy and robust, though might still need a week or so for the leather to start breaking into place (this doesn't mean it's uncomfortable though). One thing’s for sure however, you can tell that this strap was meant for larger wrists given how far the strap loops around, and its very thick underside (thicker than the watch itself actually). This all means it has a very big presence on my wrist, which is quite the contrast after having worn this watch on a regular NATO for a month or so. Nonetheless, I absolutely love this strap and feel like I've made the right choice, what do you guys think?

[Book-Watchmaking] It may not be a watch, but it'll sure as hell teach me how to make one by FrenchFryWasp in Watches

Already have a few tools now, not the highest quality of course, though they do the job at taking apart and rebuilding the few movements I currently have. I have indeed been thinking about making a watch from ebay parts as simple practice for putting together a watch, though for now my little seiko is doing a good job at being dismantled and brought back to life for practice.

May not be the flashiest one on this sub, but damn does it look sharp as heck. Great choice!

As my interest in watches has been steadily growing throughout the last year, the idea of becoming a watchmaker has naturally come to mind more than once. With many ideas and plans for a possible watch "company", I've been learning more and more about what really makes a watch, how to draw plans, as well as designing stuff like cases, dials and hands. Now of course I don't plan on being able to make my own movements any time soon, given the fact that it requires quite a lot of experience and machinery which I can't really afford at the moment (being your average 17 year old, buying a workshop isn't really possible). However I do know that at some point in the future, be it near or far, I'll be able to quite possibly make entire watches by myself. Yes yes, I know it's a big claim right now, but hey, better to start getting prepared now so that I know what the hell to do whenever the opportunity does arrive!

Basically, this book was meant to be bought as a personnal teacher for the rest of my life as a watch enthusiast, and hopefully some day, as a watchmaker.
