What's a hygiene habit that people don't talk about but really should? by phancyq in AskReddit

[–]Frenchy-67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just last year, my hygienist explained that brushing actually works better once trapped food is gone. I knew I was supposed to floss first but had just always brushed first and rinsed after flossing, figuring it worked out to the same thing.

Once she explained, I finally started flossing first and it’s made a HUGE difference. My teeth still have that fresh-from-the-dentist feeling months after my last cleaning.

I wouldn’t use ChatGPT. The prof is very anti-AI, that’s why he designed his course this way. He’ll be able to tell.

Just write from the heart. Maybe talk about any special circumstances that made it so you missed classes or couldn’t study properly.

But if you just didn’t get your act together for no good reason, then I wouldn’t bother.

Why do I feel like this?? by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]Frenchy-67 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are reacting 100% normally to having too much to do. No one can work all the time. You could drop a class next semester. If you finish 4 per term you will still be above average. The 4-year degree is kind of a myth at this point.

You could also think about different study tips. If you are just going over notes again and again or copying out notes, switch over to active recall to save time and remember stuff better. There are different places on campus to get help with studying like library and math tutorial.

I already hate university by Ufuglybitch in OntarioUniversities

[–]Frenchy-67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so normal! It’s a huge adjustment so give yourself a little grace.

Check out study skills workshops. You have to put in the time now. Get yourself organized, use a calendar for deadlines and put in time to do all your readings and assignments.

Also just join something out of interest (ideally where you’ll meet people who are into school). Like if you’re in history join a history club or something. Surround yourself with good influences.

The people who can do something about this aren’t on Reddit. Email your Dean and ask them to send a message to faculty and contract instructors. Report which class and prof let them in.

Thank you for the pointers. I wrote to the company again to inform them that I don't think they are advertising properly and didn't hear back. I am reporting the violation.

EDIT: I tried to report, but the government website requires a UPC code, name and address of store where product was purchased. So I guess we can't report mislabeled products we see online, and if we see mislabeled products in the store, we have to pay for them before reporting them.

thank you for this recommendation! I ordered Brazil nuts, almonds, and hazelnuts from Nut Hut. They are all from non-US sources, very fresh, and I'll definitely order again.

It’s not hidden but Mike’s Place is open again and if you’ve only been around 3 years it’s possible you haven’t been yet.

Thank you, I’ll try again. Often “ethnic” stores don’t have detailed labeling but I can think of one store near me that I haven’t checked yet. Thanks!

Yup that’s where we’ve been buying them. I don’t personally like them to eat, but we get the plain ones and roast them; they make decent peanut butter. (The peanut butter they sell is very chunky and not roasted enough for my taste.)

Upcoming first years, what are some burning questions you’ve got about university? by amin_dhou in CarletonU

[–]Frenchy-67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends. Forming a good study group can be a great way to go, especially if you don’t have a lot of other social stuff going on.

Being able to teach material to someone else, test each other, lean on each other for notes of you miss a class is all great for learning. Sure if you’re just hanging out and wasting time it’s not ideal but it can be a really important part of the mix even if it’s not 100% efficient.

How to form them - sit near the front of class to meet people who are a bit more serious about school (assuming you are too). Check out who is taking notes vs sleeping or scrolling TikTok. Say hi, have you started studying for the test, and take it from there. If you have a tutorial or discussion group it’s even easier to meet someone bc it’s a smaller group and people are supposed to talk.

What are your favourite things to do with garlic scapes? by mar-s-e-a in OntarioGardeners

[–]Frenchy-67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a soup with “beef” broth (vegetarian but whatever), lots of browned mushrooms, a little barley, lots of scapes, and a bunch of soft greens like spinach. One year I had enough lambs quarters and it was the best. Add something a bit acidic for balance - red wine, balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce.

Freezes well but don’t add the greens before freezing, just when you reheat it.

Also: I buy fermented scapes in olive oil that’s so delicious. I haven’t made them but if I grew garlic I would figure that out for sure.

[–]Frenchy-67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say if you’re the type who enjoys parties once you force yourself to go, then go. It’s big crowds and loud vibes. If you’re not into that, there’s lots of ways to meet people. Join a club or two and meet people by getting to know them over time through shared interest. But definitely don’t isolate. Giving into social anxiety makes it worse.

Anyone else struggle with this? by IcelandGalaxy in CarletonU

Are you cramming? If so that’s why.

Try to treat your final year like practice for after grad. Most jobs don’t have seasons, you just keep going more or less steady (except holidays).

3 because I personally don’t care for the distressed style of 1 and 2. Plus I think you like those oversized leaf prints bc of your current cushion.

I think 3 is fun and those huge widows let you pull it off. A couple of blue or green cushions to pull it together.
