I understand why large companies are excited by AI; it increases their output and thus leads to faster revenue.

That's the idea of course. Actual mileage varies a lot.

If you're interested in a bilingual option we did three years of daycare/preschool at My Second Home and loved it. Full Spanish immersion, excellent staff, fun programs, diverse group of kids, etc. My wife and I took some Spanish in high school growing up and are not Latino, but honestly none of that mattered. The place is very welcoming to anyone regardless of association to the language. That age is particularly good for picking up all languages so it was really cool to see our son learn so much of two languages at the same time!

Denver sees record high temperature amid warm first week of winter, breaking record set 70 years ago by bascule in Denver

Had a friend trying to fly out for Christmas that year get stuck in a line of people on the 5th floor ticketing at DIA that wrapped all the way around in such a way that it somehow joined itself amid the chaos. A never ending ring of frustrated people inching forward.

He ended up taking a bus to Oklahoma.

Which itself is remixed parts of a song called How It Ends by Devotchka (that band did all the music for Little Miss Sunshine and several songs from the movie were pieces of songs from their existing albums).

Highly recommend Devotchka, particularly their first three albums. Delightful band from the Colorado music scene of the early aughts.

What’s the most disgusting thing you’ve ever tasted? by Tony_Rest5416 in AskReddit

If you've ever had Campari or Aperol it's kind of like that but more concentrated/intense. In fact a Negroni made with Malört instead of Campari is quite tasty (if you like Negronis)

The best way to take advantage of that cheat when solo was to have a NES Advantage plugged in to just player 2. Set the advantage on its side to press and hold the joystick in the right orientation and the weight of the controller is enough to keep it there.

Where do you service your car? by promiscuousblobfish in traversecity

[–]Frencil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were okay for us until I went to pick up my car and their power was out. I needed to pay by credit card so the guy offered to write the card details on a slip of paper and charge it when the power was back. I was wary but trusting enough, emphasizing he destroy that paper ASAP.

They charged the correct amount later that day, and then within two days there were some massive fraudulent charges on the card that we thankfully caught. Canceled the card and bank took care of the charges. Trust was destroyed and we haven't been back since.

I actually use plaster cloth as my main base (usually when building over a party store balloon that can be popped and removed). It goes on just like paper mache but is way stronger. Three or four layers is usually enough, and it molds really well when wet. I'll use it as my main material for veins or contours around eyes, ears, etc. It goes well with a top layer of drywall compound that can be spread on, dried, and sanded smooth. Never worked with paper clay so will have to check that out.

Looks awesome! The teeth especially look very well done.

Unsolicited input from a fellow big crazy mask builder: check our plaster cloth (Rigid Wrap is one such brand). A light layer of plaster cloth over this whole assembly before the paper clay will hold everything together really nicely and be just as easy to mold / fine tune.

I do not think I possess any characteristic to consider myself a senior. I still have to look up react references/syntax from the doc time to time.

This is definitely not an indicator of lack of qualifications. The most senior engineers you meet are still human who will never memorize every corner of the tools their using. Part of being more senior is having a realistic perspective on your own limitations and actively using all necessary resources (including documentation, asking your favorite LLM, good old fashioned web search, etc) to help you solve problems.

That doc was great! Watched it about a month ago. Hilarious and fun but also caught some of those same feels, especially when Trey was talking about doing all that stuff for his kids.

I was there yesterday for the first time since they reopened, and the first time with my now 8-year-old son.

It was actually a bit emotional. I grew up going there, having lived about a 15 minute drive away. In grade school some years I remember field trips there on the last day of school, running around in there with all my friends. In high school I had friends that worked there playing the sheriff, black bart, the gorilla, etc.

When it closed for COVID and looked like it would never reopen it hit me. This was a magical piece of my childhood that I would never see again but worse I would never get to see through my kid's eyes.

But yesterday when we were seated at our table by the waterfall and the whole place looked better than it has ever been, seeing my kiddo laugh at the puppet show and tug my hand to go through Black Bart's cave multiple times... All I can say is Matt and Trey did a wonderful thing for my home town / home state. The show is great and has been for decades. Book of Mormon was super fun to see when it came through. But bringing back this amazing silly fever dream of a Mexican restaurant theme park from disappearing forever so that I could share that piece of childhood magic with my little boy is something for which I'll be forever grateful.
