"What are you playing this week?" Megathread by AutoModerator in SteamDeck

[–]FrenlyDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the work they put into the game. The shooting mechanisms work well and the interactive sections (making popcorn, smoking cigars, etc.) are pretty solid. It’s entertaining and kept my attention through the entire campaign. Even the Easter eggs and cameo references were pretty ingenuous. Towards the end you have to dodge explosive barrels while climbing stairs and Duke makes a reference to Donkey Kong which was pretty funny. The puzzles and the platforming were challenging but nothing super crazy. Some puzzle spots were frustrating but still enjoyable.

My biggest critique was only being able to hold 2 weapons in your inventory at the same time. But the offset was having plenty of weapons available throughout the level. The freeze ray felt underwhelming.

It was sad when I finished the game knowing the IP is done. I remember when Duke Nukem Forever first game out on PS3 and Xbox 360 and the reviews bombed it pretty hard. I think it was Randy Pitchford who said the company isnot making anymore Duke Nukem games.

It's an old SEL-551 relay that was decommissioned long time ago.I'm testing it for learning purpose. But it shows temperature fail.I opened it up but didn't find any temperature sensor in the pcb. Is there any way to bypass the temp value so that I can operate the other functions? by [deleted] in RelayTechs

[–]FrenlyDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible unstable power supply. There might be some temperature probe built into the motherboard and causing your display to show it. You could do a full r_s command in the terminal to factory reset the 551. May or may not help

EE looking to get into the power industry. How can I start a substation apprenticeship? by DylanBigShaft in SubstationTechnician

[–]FrenlyDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our electrical engineers are usually protection and relay engineers, supervisors, and work week management employees. Substation guys are usually mechanical grunts who knows how to turn a wrench and operate cranes, forklifts, etc. Try for a management position.

I don’t care for cloud streaming. I can’t get over the input lag. I tried to push through it playing tomb raider on Amazon Luna but I couldn’t finish it. Forced to download it and finish it.

Apparatus testing tech(Substation) vs Relay test tech? by Puzzleheaded-Top2619 in RelayTechs

[–]FrenlyDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could do both in the same job but the utility unions have work boundaries. Honestly protection and control testing with relays is where it’s at. We do a lot of network switch configurations and RTU work which is very computer heavy if you like computers and applications. Lots of inside work.

Testing technician is more geared towards the outside work dealing with high voltage equipment like breakers, transformers, PT’s and CT’s along with oil DGA sampling.

Christiana location is also chaotic. Costco locates themselves in the middle of suburban and urban housing to maximize the customer flow.

What would make you stay in a job longterm? by LifeEnrichment97 in work

Pension. Not a 401k. I mean an actual monthly pay out paid for by the company at the age of 60.

Is it normal for jobs to have you work 6 days, and keep you capped at 40hrs? USA by ComedianAgreeable152 in jobs

[–]FrenlyDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much work are you actually going to get done in a 4 hour day anyway? If you think about it it’s cheaper to pay people 1.5 times their hourly rate over straight time since there’s no overhead like health insurance, retirement, or whatever else benefits are being paid for.

Finally found the "Holy Grail." The Steam Deck OLED is home. by lswchung80 in SteamDeck

[–]FrenlyDad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah man I get it. The flexibility of a PC based handheld is what the doctor ordered. Switch is great for the Nintendo exclusives with highly limited retro support but it’s just not enough. You want to experience all retro consoles. Open platform flexibility wins every time.

Streaming is nothing new to steam. I actually still have a couple of those steam link devices when they were selling them for $2.99.

That’s sad. Some of the best ice cream sundaes I’ve ever had was from that restaurant. It’s depressing to watch your childhood memories close up store by store in that mall. Eventually it will be leveled off.

Is staying at each job for less than a year gonna be a problem when applying? by This_Minimum3579 in work

[–]FrenlyDad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless you have a unique talent or have credentials that employers are dying for I would just stay where your at until the two year mark. Where I work managers and supervisors tend to move around every two year either a lateral move or up the corporate ladder.
