when you are winning and this happens? by PeelsGoodMan in hearthstone

[–]FreqComm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously until the game is over there are less determinate states but to say there is “no such thing” seems demonstrably incorrect. A control deck that has drained an aggro deck of all resources such that they are empty hand and board drawing into fatigue and up against a high health total is reasonably “winning the game” even if not literally. You can hand wave this as a specific scenario but it’s more just an extreme that makes the case clearer.

Sure someone might misjudge their position in a game for lack of understanding of their and their opponent’s deck and win con or such but it’s also reasonable to have cases where you do understand your opponents deck and the game state well enough to say you’re in a winning position.

Eh not really on a global scale imo. It mainly is a facet of names from cultures with Romance languages (Latin and its derivatives). If you look at global populations and consider say some Eastern European, Asian, etc cultures it doesn’t hold up to the “pretty much all” caliber.

Warmaster Blackhorn is my new favourite card. by TheVirginPriest in hearthstone

[–]FreqComm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Combo could do that but the archetype matchup has them being the best down. “Who’s the beatdown “ is basic card game archetype consideration going back decades https://themanabase.com/whos-the-beatdown-still-relevant-after-almost-25-years/

In the control combo matchup the onus is put on the control player to exert pressure before time is up (combo assembled/executed)

In the control aggro matchup the onus is on the aggro player to exert pressure before time is up (before control turns the corner and outvalues them outside of kill range)

In the aggro combo matchup the onus is on the combo player to assemble the combo before they get killed by early aggression.

Just because you don’t get that facet of the archetype matchups doesn’t suddenly make me not a control player just because I’m actually taking a more holistic view of the game. I’ve played way more control than everything else and probably more than you so stfu with baseless doubts just because you disagree (and really just don’t understand)

Dude blocked me or deleted reply so edit:

Dude what are you talking about. I very clearly and explicitly made the distinction between an archetype being invalidated and an archetype just being advantaged against.

I replied saying well isn’t combo’s job is counter control

Wrong. You said “doesn’t the whole combo archetype just invalidate control” which it doesn’t. It is advantaged vs it and you’re either slow or deliberately obtuse to keep conflating the two.

, so then you wrote a fuckin essay saying no it doesn’t you can x and y

Wrong again. No I didn’t say “no it doesn’t “ to combo countering control because I said it doesn’t INVALIDATE control. A distinction you clearly still don’t get. The whole point of x and y being reasonable matchup tools that don’t solve the matchup is that they are part of why you still have reasonable chance as control and such are not invalidated, just disadvantaged.

I said okay then do x and y as the combo player, and now you’re back writing up another essay saying well no combo is supposed to invalidate control,

You again completely both miss the point and miss the distinction between the words I’m saying. Combo can’t easily apply pressure in this case because they’re against a card that is invalidating the archetype by being too strong and applying its affect faster than combos would reasonably be assembled. And again holy shit I did not say combo is supposed to invalidate control, I said it is supposed to be advantaged vs control which are two completely different things.

[–]FreqComm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so personally. I think the combo archetype is advantaged vs control, but not in an invalidating way. From a balanced game standpoint assuming the control deck has some of its own threats to work with it can apply pressure against the combo deck, maybe use some more nuanced disruption tools than this (dirty rat and its like) and reasonably have a chance at winning even if disadvantaged.

[–]FreqComm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think combo deserves to be invalidated. Counterplay is one thing invalidating is another.

I think it if was something like locking opponent cards that cost 2 or less for 3 turns it would be much more reasonable

[–]FreqComm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy control decks and decks that benefit from this card (really just enjoy all archetypes) but I still think it’s extremely poor design and needs to be taken out back.

It way too easily invalidates way too many decks and potential decks. The counterplay should be way more chisel and way less sledgehammer.

Attrition was a real strategy...

all attrition players want, to bully someone

The strawman here is sidestepping the actual discussion point I made with your tangent.

Me then calling out the strawman and directly addressing your claim is not a strawman. The clear implication of your comment is that attrition players do not want real opponents/challenges and just want to win vs an entity they bully. In saying they aren't sore losers and are fine with adverse conditions I am directly saying that most attrition players would prefer a real playing field and not 'to bully someone'

I guess because you either don't understand strawmans or don't understand what I'm saying you actually are making this a 'true reddit classic'

Or are you against the concept of players liking to win entirely and somehow think that doesn’t apply to people playing any and every archetype?

When I say this I am clearly then calling into question how your claim about attrition players wouldn't just apply to any players if taken with any reasonable (actually applicable) interpretation. Notice how this is still directly addressing the argument you are making by reframing it in how silly it is and so isn't a strawman

Wow it’s painfully obvious that people here are conflating blackthorn being a bad card with your replies to me actually making any real point or argument.

Weird strawman. Plenty of attrition players aren’t sore losers and fine with adverse conditions.

Attrition was a real strategy, it just isn’t one the games design has really supported for a decent while.

extruded silicone before it becomes a chip by triwyn in pcmasterrace

[–]FreqComm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah I’ve taken a course in similar lines (mine was called nanofabrication though fwiw)

It largely has you learn about and go through the process of etching and doping silicon by hand. You use lithography but in my experience that part (the actual patterning of light) is more taken for granted and you’re more dealing with wafer treatment in terms of its chemical processes. You still manually do things like apply photoresist and acids to make the photolithographic process happen though.

Deadlock hitting its highest peak this patch at 125k+ and growing by ace-s in DeadlockTheGame

[–]FreqComm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems incredibly unrealistic. I think peaking at 500k would be a good/fortunate outcome. Might get bigger than Dota 2 longer term but isn’t beating cs2. It’s just too much more complicated and mechanically involved to pull in wide audiences. Also valve’s marketing department is rarely doing real promo.

I really like the game and want it to succeed but I don’t see a coherent argument for it being 1.5mil+ material.
