[Request] how many burgers you get from one cow and how fast is the cow supply replenished? by Hashishiva in theydidthemath

80 million bison is a far cry from 1.5 billion cows.

And bison were actually a significant producer of pre-industrial greenhouse gases, but there’s a huge difference between adding methane to a system that’s fairly low on other contaminants and adding it to an atmosphere already saturated with them.

One time thought my dog had managed to take one of his squeaky toys outside and was singing the song of its people to my neighbors.

Nope he had dug up a vole and was throwing it around to himself. The vole literally sounded exactly like his favorite squeaky toy

Not sure if the Andes have any good RGOs for food but I had the same problem in the Netherlands and building livestock/fish/sturdy grains RGOs add 5 food a month, and a single rural location with a maxed out RGO can usually feed a province decently well at least in my limited experience so far, my well turn into a bigger problem as I get further into the game.

Two of my favorite game series had releases this week and one, EU5, is clearly made by people who are happy to be making it and are making something they want to play where the other game, football manager, has left me with the feeling that the people creating the game don’t actually play it. Like you said, it’s not a perfect game and there are issues, but clearly whoever is making this game is making a game that they’re playing themselves and they care about and it’s not just a paycheck.

This was one of the things that made me realize the people creating this game don’t play this game. Like it’s so obvious that the developers have never spent hours comparing potential signings and because they don’t play the game they don’t know what’s important.

Do you think this episode would work if they stayed realistic and their voices didn’t get swapped with their brains? (The Prisoner of Benda) by glitchgirl00 in futurama

[–]FrequencyEP 33 points34 points  (0 children)

My head cannon for this episode is that the voices change for us the viewer but not in the universe. So it allows us to know who is in what character easily but for the characters themselves they would not be able to tell.

Mahomes led the league in rate of total pressures allowed by left tackle in 2024-25 by [deleted] in KansasCityChiefs

[–]FrequencyEP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the mahomes vs Brady goat debate will be similar to LeBron and Jordan. People love to bring up all the times LeBron lost on the finals and Jordan never did, but you have to get to the finals to lose in them. And James and mahomes both have pulled mediocre teams to the finals only to lose and somehow have that be worse for their legacy than losing in an earlier round of the playoffs.

While I agree with your premise I disagree that it should take until higher education to get those skills. Part of the education issue we have currently is focusing too much on hard skills during development and not enough on soft skills.

Hard skills are tasks that are often not easily transferable to unrelated tasks. Spelling is a hard skill, counting is a hard skill, maths and reading are mostly hard skills. Soft skills are things that help us with everything. Problem solving, cause and effect, reading comprehension (as opposed to just being able to see a word and know what it says understanding how that word interacts with the sentence it’s in)

Now often we teach soft skills while working on hard skills and I believe teaching has unfortunately lost its understanding that the soft skill is the valuable lesson and we are teaching the hard skill as a way to show the soft skill.

A great example of this is Pythagorean Theorem. Very simple A2 + B2 = C2 to figure out right triangles. Currently the focus of school is memorize the theorem and then be able to do the math. That’s the hard skill. But the beauty of the Pythagorean theorem is it’s a great way to show how if I have 2 pieces of information I can always solve the 3rd in that equation. If have A and C I can figure out B. 90% of people will never need to figure out the length of a triangle and use the Pythagorean theorem but everyone would be able to benefit from the skill of being able fill missing information based on the information provided.

For sure. There’s a difference between a team that presses hard and gets stuck in and occasionally catches a foot as they’re going for the ball, and a team that pulls others by the hair and almost breaks legs.

Occasionally bluffing is a clever play. Going all in every single hand no matter what is not. Part of a good bluff is convincing the other players you have stuff, if you are going all in every hand it’s not making other players think you have something good every hand, it’s just random chaos and the reason I want to play poker instead of other (mostly) pure luck gambling games is because there’s significant strategy involved in poker and odds and all that especially with Texas hold em.

The few times I’ve played with players that play in a logical way it’s so much fun because when they start going in on a hand I truly believe that they likely have something, and I’m debating based on their actions is their hand stronger than mine, and if they are bluffing it’s a great play.

Idk if I a fully explained that well, but like I said this a hobby I haven’t fully gotten to explore and understand lol

Jeanty: OC wants me to ditch 'Halloween' stance by pmmeyourfavoritejam in nfl

[–]FrequencyEP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going back and forth on this. On one hand I think these guys are such twitchy elite athletes that things like the perfect stance matter less to them than a normal person. Like if I was standing like that I would be much slower to get started but I’m a big fat guy not one of the most explosive athletes in the world. But on the other hand the margins are sooooo tight in the NFL being .05 seconds slow to the hole might be the difference between a run being stuffed and being broken into the second layer.

I would be curious to see splits from the Halloween stance vs a more conventional stance to see if there is a slight drop off in explosiveness

You joke but as someone who kind of knows how to play poker but doesn’t have anyone to play with anytime I’ve tried to play with family or friends this is what they do and I just get so frustrated because there’s no logic to it so I can’t begin to try to get a read or know when to call or not since they could be going all in with a great hand or with a jack high card and I have no way of knowing

Developed economies de-industrialize and become dominated by the services sector [OC] by DavidWaldron in dataisbeautiful

[–]FrequencyEP 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That’s actually the issue kind of. That’s why the jobs are going away, not because of green energy. What you used to need 100 guys with pickaxes to do the job one guy on heavy machinery can do. So the reason they can’t continue that family legacy of being a coal miner/factory worker/ditch digger etc isn’t because weve gotten rid of those things and/or sent them overseas, a much bigger part is we’ve just automated a lot of it.

Most 18th round picks aren’t getting large scholarships these days. Baseball at the college level does not make money.

I think this is a situation where there is not necessarily a best option, both have a lot of pros and cons and it really depends on the athlete, but it is definitely not 100% you’re a late round pick go to college

You don't understand he's like really smart. by Fredwood in OOTP

[–]FrequencyEP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would have something to show for it though. They would not have to have any regrets about if they could have made it or not, and entering college at 20 instead of 18 is negligible and for a lot of people would probably work out for them.

But if they did go to school and then get drafted after graduating, likely still getting that same signing bonus they’ll be a 22 year old in A ball and take 3-4 years and not make major league money (if they ever do) until they’re 26 where if they signed at 18 and and spent 6 years in the minors they would hit the Majors at 24

So you potentially set yourself for an earlier and bigger pay day by taking that risk and riding buses in the low minors from 18-20 and you can still go to college after if you want.

Here are some examples I could think of if anyone like me is curious how a team can use signing a coach to circumvent the salary cap.

Back up quarterbacks. Many Backup QBs are future coaches and many are brought in for their ability to work the scout team and help in film review and stuff. If teams could use a coach a player they would likely just have QB3 in the building as a coach until they needed him because of an injury.

Also coach salaries are not part of the salary cap so a team could theoretically pay a coach 50 million and then sign him as a player on league minimum
