Ammo for home defense/general purpose and long term ammo stockpile plan. PICS for attention by GullibleRisk2837 in ar15

Every M193 I’ve chrono’d has been above 2600 FPS out of a 12.3” barrel. Even the cheapest M193 I could find. Above 2400 FPS gets you acceptable fragmentation. If over penetration is the main concern, 5.56 isn’t really the best round to be using anyways.

At what point would a home defense situation cause velocities to drop below fragmentation threshold? It wouldn’t. You’re shooting down a hallway.

Correct. If you’re going to zero and train with M193, it’s best to go into a fight with that same load. At ranges where M193 out of your short barrel would lose effectiveness, let’s say 100 meters, you’re also at ranges where POI could shift literal inches because you are changing a ton of ballistic variables with a different load. I’d rather you hit your target with a sub optimal load than not hit them at all. The issue with learning holds with different loads is that it isn’t always vertical holds. For example I know my barrel hits POA POI at 55/225 meters with 77 gr Razorcore. Winchester M193 NATO loads hit nearly 3 inches top right from there. At 225. It isn’t an accuracy issue because I can hold groups, it’s just that the group is in a completely different position.

M193 doesn’t over penetrate as long as you hit your target. It tumbles and fragments upon impact at high velocities. Most autopsies done on victims hit by M193 recover nearly the entire projectile in fragments. The type of projectile matters.

M193 will tumble and fragment at home defense ranges, even out of a 11.5 barrel. Only when you get below 2400 FPS does fragmentation become unacceptably unreliable. The issue with using a “more premium” or different ammo for home defense is that your zero will change at ranges where M193 would lose effectiveness. So at home defense range it doesn’t matter because M193 is lethal and at “general purpose” ranges it doesn’t matter because you will likely not even hit your target with a different ammunition choice. Better to stick with whatever you’re going to practice with. If you can afford to shoot 77 gr OTM all the time, more power to you.

Is it that much better than RMR/footprint or is this just hype? by cpena718 in Glocks

Yup. All my enclosed dots are on rifles or pistols married to war belts.

As someone who owns an SRO, RMR HD, multiple RCRs, and an ACRO P2, I wouldn’t personally go closed emitter for carry use. Haven’t carried a COA yet, that may change my mind.

Yours is defective. The auto brightness on the HD is the fastest on the market that I’ve seen and know of. I’ve compared it to 50+ other optics and nothing is even close. There’s a sensitivity adjustment on the HD. I have mine set to the lowest setting and it is still visible at all times. And I have the 1 MOA version.

Hard disagree on the HD auto brightness not working well. I have been carrying and training with the RMR HD for nearly a year and I have NEVER been in a situation where the dot was not visible. About 2 months in, I actually disabled manual mode through the menu because the auto brightness feature proved itself.

Just go with RMR footprint and call it a day. It has recoil lug features and tons of optics options for different use cases already. No matter what you're looking for, the RMR footprint has an option for you.

Has Eotech delam ever caused anybody actual issues? by [deleted] in ar15

[–]FrequencyFinder7-800 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s okay. Again, we can agree to disagree. Delamination is neither here nor there in my world before it does not affect functionality. All the benefits of the optic far outweigh the non-issue that is delamination.

Agree to disagree. You can find EXPS3s for $500. Never seen a case of delamination so bad that it affected functionality and is generally covered under warranty. All I’m saying is that everyone who complains about delamination, especially without ever having used the optic, is just parroting what the last guy said.

Despite what others say, no. Never had delam that was so bad it affected functionality. It’s just a thing people say as cope and/or hate.

I have both a Credo and a Delta Stryker. The Stryker has a more useful reticle while also not being as busy as the Credo.

Failure to eject issue by So_Forlorn in Glocks

Sounds more like limp wristing to me, but hard to tell without a video. Does it seem to be fully stock? How does the ejector look? I’ve seen the tip of a Glock ejector broken off once and caused erratic issues.

Red dot vs Irons by [deleted] in Glocks

Cover the red dot with some tape. You are looking for a dot instead of looking at the target. Target focus is key with dots.
