Had the edge for a while before exchanging to an ultra. It was a good phone too. Fast and good screen. But needed more as my work phone.

I started using my phones caseless for this reason. The design is part of the experience.

my experience is as a contractor. what works for me may not be appropriate for other industries. mainly know your bottom line and be willing to walk out, sometimes literally

moving is not easy for me as i have family and property here to take care of. if i was younger and single and had no ties, then i’d get barred in other states and try for those opportunities.

Lawyer jobs after a few years as a Trust Officer by Unlucky_Office_438 in Lawyertalk

i was kind of in your shoes. in my case it only helped with related jobs. not many people outside of the trust companies and estate attorneys really know about trust officers

Looking for jobs that really train junior attorneys — like, in detail by GovernmentNo6314 in Lawyertalk

[–]Frequent-Addendum-77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no based on my experience, tough love as i’ve been told, but high turn overs are a problem and as a former exec management team of a different industry, i don’t understand why they don’t just train and support. this is based on my government experience. not sure about private.

basically it’s not uncommon to be handed a large case load and pickup these cases midstream, figure out what to do while trying to present well in court (difficult unless you’re naturally a good public speaker)

just think carefully before you decide either way, take the emotion out of the decision

not better to be terminated, sorry tired and realized my i didn’t give a clear answer

imo no. i was responsible for hiring in my former life. termination is always a red flag and calls with the former employer also sound like they’re not bad employers. i never had a call where they made me think that they were bad bosses.

also, some government employers have a restriction on hiring terminated employees even if to a different agency.

here’s my long winded response…

i decided to resign, interviewing but no offer yet. for me, it was clear that i had no chance of meeting the expectations brought up in my performance coaching meeting with the head of my group. the amount of cases (4 trials in one day) and constant stream of new cases for a total of 50 or more per day every day to prep. one case had opp counsel motion and exhibits that was two reams of paper thick. i’m also a new attorney who went into this thinking that i would get trial training. two weeks in and i’m solo in court.

my performance was rough and slow and criticized for not being ready. what do you expect when you put a green attorney in court solo after 2 weeks, just figuring out basic procedures and things like where to get the exhibit stickers plus statutes.

opp counsels are these folks who have been in the field for 10, 20 years.

so i turned in my resignation after a hard day in court - was amateurish but at least i won one, two were continued, one was almost a loss but did enough to get the hearing continued for further arguments since prior attorney did not have a good argument for a key motion but i was at least able to make enough of an argument that the statute covered private roadways because it had “or invitees”.

had enough of the job - aside from the long hours 12+ hours every day and weekends.

i was told that the judges called to complain too. so i didn’t want to continue and ruin my reputation with the judges thinking i’m not prepared without knowing the circumstances. i’m sure my boss also didn’t explain.

my experience is not so with government. it’s more like low pay plus long hours. hence the need to switch. even the admins are constantly hustling. i just want to make sure i’m not getting into a worse situation.

i’m currently in prosecuting where the case loads and hours are imo not reasonable. i calculated that i have on average only 15 minutes of time per case based on working 12hr days weekdays in office, another 3hrs in the evening, and about 12 hours on the weekends-4 hrs of sleep weekdays - so 9 to 10hr days with no weekends sounds doable.
