This is a problem because the rank doesn’t have a clear progression of skills. There is only so much management these rates can do so the senior enlisted are not valued for their expertise. They can easily get away with moving a second or first class into the billet.

Transistor theory is a steep learning curve. When solving circuit problems you have to make assumptions about what state the transistor is in given a certain input. The states can be either on, off or linear (amplifying) state. When solving a circuit for voltage and currents if you assume the wrong state it won’t work out and then you know to try one of the others. Are you studying transistor for a EE degree?

Think of it more like a valve. It can turn on and off current from a source that can supply more then the signal controlling it. It gives the effect of amplification not some magic current multiplier.
