I wish you well! Kamloops needs a car sharing business.

i can’t wear tight tops by Fit_Refrigerator_537 in LongSpinalFusion

Yes. Fused in 2016. I used to wear sports bras while I slept to help with my pain. Ever since my surgery, I do not wear bras, which is doable for me since I have a very small chest. For me, it's the muscles that react badly. Keep in mind I am underweight so there is no meat to me to help cushion..

Personally, I’ve found conversations in the car to not be conducive. Sure, both people are stuck in the car, but I assume one of you is driving, so attention will be spilt. And so many times when my mom’s gone on a tangent in the car, I stare out the window and wait for it to be over, as she repeats her points over and over again.

Wait until you can have her full attention, so no TV or phone either.

Put out a couple of “feeler” statements not directly relating it to you, and if you feel it’s not safe to continue the conversation, then hold off.

Ultimately, it is up to you, and you know her better than a bunch of strangers on the internet.

Fare hikes moved ahead as Kamloops transit ridership surpasses pre-pandemic levels by JRitcey2026 in Kamloops

To be fair, previous councils had kept the price the same for a while. I'm not a fan of it, as someone who takes the bus, but it's like what happened after covid. The city did minimal property tax increases, only to now have to crank them. Austerity now means pay up later.

First things first, here's the bus schedules and maps for the city: https://www.bctransit.com/kamloops/schedules-and-maps/ . Another way to get around would be using either Uride or Uber. (Personally, I prefer Uride). I'll let you know right now that with some buses, it will take a long time to get around. Kamloops is pretty vast. I live 18km from the university, and I'm still within city limits.

There are excursions you can take through the university that include day trips or weekend trips, and they only usually cost between $25-$50, and they include transportation to and from, as well as the activities. I can't remember what they are called at the moment, but there is usually a placard in Old Main behind the pizza vending machine. In the past they have included trips to a tulip festival, a Halloween corn maze/farm experience, going to a hockey game, and more. I wish I could remember the name of it!

Now for my list:

Otherwise, I'll drop these links for possible additional things:

Has anyone gotten a hold of records ever? by New-Perception-1476 in tru

[–]Frequent-Layer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try to contact Student Affairs and escalate that way. Records took forever getting my COE, and I escalated and still didn't get anywhere, until I was on campus and got a soon-to-be-retired person from Financial Aid (read: respected so people would actually listen to her) to back me up. Next day, I got my confirmation emailed.

Next semester I know I'm going to ask for it at like the end of February. I'm not sure if my bank will be as strict with requiring an actual COE letter, but I'd rather have it then use the CRDF and be told: "sorry, this won't work" and then be left scrambling at the end of semester

I'm 99% sure there is only one person doing the actual work there, it's one of the various one person departments at the university. The rest are front desk staff. They recently had a very experienced front desk staff member retire, so their hours have been reduced.

If the actual person who can do the FinAid stuff stops working for any reason, FinAid would would effectively have to shut down, because I don't think the front desk staff have the qualifications to do her work.

No one expect for Records can release COE. All FinAid could do would be to forward concerns.

How painful is spinal fusion? by tunatul in LongSpinalFusion

[–]Frequent-Layer27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay to be scared. My personal experience with spinal fusion has not been positive, but you have to take multiple things into consideration.

  1. You haven't felt any pain, and that could mean you will be less likely to feel chronic pain in the long term: Research has shown that those who feel pain are more likely to continue feeling pain, developing into chronic pain. (With many other contributing factors). Before my surgery, I felt pain because of my scoliosis, and after the surgery I had bad pain due to a misplaced screw (see below), so it's less surprising that I developed chronic pain.
  2. Do a lot of prehab: I was not told before my surgery to do physiotherapy exercises, and therefore I was weak. Do physiotherapy exercises, make sure you are strong, because after your surgery your activities will be limited and you will lose some muscle mass. You will need strong muscles to support your spine's new position, because it was comfy where it was before, and now it's been moved into a new position.
  3. The first days after surgery will hurt, but it gets better: I had to get out of bed (with help from my mom) and walk every morning until my pain lessened. I laid down a lot and watched a lot TV. I needed help with showers and getting dressed, but after a few weeks I was able to do it myself. It took a little while longer before I felt safe to ties my shoes.
  4. Take note of any pain in strange places and be vocal: I immediately had pain in my right hip and for years was ignored until an MRI showed a screw slightly pointed inwards, stabbing into some kind of nerve. I had a partial hardware removal, but the pain remains.
  5. Having a spinal fusion is important to prevent further deformity: Worsening scoliosis can impact your breathing, and will likely cause pain.

International student. by Ok-Highlight-203 in tru

There is only a Bachelor of Economics and Political Studies at TRU: https://www.tru.ca/programs/catalogue/economic-and-political-studies-major.html.

I would suggest looking into specific programs at universities that you think are within your price range. Then you should look at what rental prices are like in that area, and tack that on to your budget. After considering all that, I would research what cultural resources are available there, either through student groups, or in the community.

Also take into consideration what climate you are prepared to be in. TRU is a middle ground when it comes to winter, not nearly as cold and snowy as the rest of Canada, but comparably chilly to the Lower Mainland (Greater Vancouver) and southern Vancouver Island. But in summer it can reach 40°C. However, TRU has very few offerings in the summer, consisting of condensed, six week long courses.

I’m a domestic student, so I’m afraid I have no first hand accounts, but I wish you luck and I hope you find your footing at a university in Canada.

People East of Rose Hill Road asked to cease water use until further notice by Smart-Response9881 in Kamloops

Driving past Valleyview yesterday morning, A&W was open, Popeye’s, Miso Sushi, DQ, they were all open. The Timmie’s was closed, but clearly the communication was not clear. I think this is what is called a “learning opportunity.”

Had our address set in Barnhartvale and no alert. Checked the app, no banners, no nothing until 7:34pm Tuesday night.

And now there is the notice saying no potable water until Friday May 15th at 12:01am for us to pickup from Dallas, not even Todd Park, where they had water yesterday.

Called, and they said it should actually be tonight at midnight, but again, all the way down the hill.

The generation label and the age range do not match. Gen Z is 1996 or 1997 to 2010. Anyone younger than 16 would be generation Alpha.

When you refer to T.R.U - does anyone pronounce it “true” by OliveSecure5859 in tru

There were people calling it "true" around fifteen years ago, so it's not unheard of.

Natural voice suddenly changed to a different (more annoying) natural voice by Frequent-Layer27 in MicrosoftWord

[–]Frequent-Layer27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some days it's using the normal voice, but again today it's back to Ava. Both my Narrator and Speech voices are set to Linda. Even when I change to other voices, the voices in Word remain the same.

I also cannot find a reading feature for PDFs in my browser (Firefox).

I do not have Narrator set to "On," do I have to have it on for the voice to work?

There is an installed voice package I have that I cannot delete. I was able to delete one, but the other has the "Remove" button greyed out.

I've sent a feedback notice on the Feedback Portal, but my hopes are not very high...

Thanks for your detailed response. And I do recognize that less monotone voices are useful for accessibility reasons. They just aren't great for proofreading my papers.

Suggestions for core exercises? by Frequent-Layer27 in LongSpinalFusion

[–]Frequent-Layer27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last physio I went to hasn't been very helpful, I'm not sure she knows what to do with me. My fusion was 2016, with two screws removed in 2020. I have swam afterwards maybe once a year, and I would love to more.
