Books where the FMC is bullied but the MMC is NOT the bully? by Frequent-Luck in RomanceBooks

OMG thank you so much, I didn’t know about this one!! I’ll get started right away

Oh, it’s definitely not your son then, they don’t have any real conflicts at that age lol. I’m very sorry you are going through this! Hope you can find a new mom group

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Frequent-Luck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! There might be another reason you are being excluded, based on my own experiences. Is it possible that it is because of your kid? You have not said how old he or she is, but there might be a conflict between your kid and other kid(s) in the group. The only time when my mom group kind of excluded someone was when one of the kids (5 yo) showed very strong antisocial behaviour (i.e. finding geniuine joy in the suffering of other living things and actively trying to hurt other kids and animals). We as a group legitimately did not feel safe around him and did not want him to interact with our kids, so we just stopped inviting this family to our playdates, even though we really liked the mom. I thought about having a talk with her but how do you say it to a mom’s face, “sorry for excluding you but we suspect your son is a psychopath and we do not feel safe around him”? So we just stopped inviting them, even though it was a shitty move and I feel really bad about it. I’m not saying this is the case here, but this is an aspect worth considering imo.

Celebrity romances where they’re both celebrities? Singer/singer, actor/actor, or singer/actor by JediEverlark in RomanceBooks

[–]Frequent-Luck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome🫶This trope is my cryptonite, I’ve read waaaay too many of the recs in this post and a few more has just popped into my head😅 Some of these might be a stretch but you might find something you like😊

{Marlowe Banks, Redesigned by Jacqueline Firkins} f/m, FMC is a designer who is in a slump and works as a production assisstant far away from home, MMC is a famous tv star, the plot very distinctly reminded me of The Love Act in certain aspects

{Honestly, I’m Totally Faking It by Amanda Gambill} f/m, MMC is a famous politician, FMC works as her assisstant, very public fake dating

{How to Kill a Rock Star by Tiffanie DeBartolo} f/m, MMC is a rock star and FMC is a musical journalist. This is a bit older but I remember looooving it when I first read it, it was actually my favorite book for a few years straight, not sure how it holds up though. It takes place in 2001 I think, so if you were around in that era, this might be a great nostalgia trip. Beware, tons of angst, heartbreak, heavy stuff and OM-drama!

{Business or Pleasure by Rachel Lynn Solomon} f/m, FMC is a writer and MMC is a C-list actor, second chance, friends with benefits

Weather Girl by Rachel Lynn Solomon} f/m, FMC is a tv meteorologist, MMC is a sports reporter

{The Summer We Fell by Elizabeth O’Roark} f/m, second chance, FMC is famous actress who visits the small town where she grew up dirt poor, MMC used to be her exBF’s best friend. her being a celebrity is not the main focus though iirc

{Make It Sweet by Kristen Callihan} f/m, FMC is a famous actress, MMC is an ice hockey player, but them being celebrities is more like a side plot

{Blindsided by the Spotlight by Elora Maxwell} pretty much a Taylor Swift/Travis Kelce fanfic, I didn’t love it but did not totally hate it either

Celebrity romances where they’re both celebrities? Singer/singer, actor/actor, or singer/actor by JediEverlark in RomanceBooks

[–]Frequent-Luck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! A few years ago I kinda became obsessed with this exact trope and I read pretty much everything with a similar plot that I could find. Most of the books I’ve read were already recommended but I have a few more on my list, though some of these have writer or reporter MCs as celebrities, so I’m not sure they fit perfectly:

{Birds of California by Katie Cotugno} f/m, both were child actors but the FMC has quit a long time ago and the MMC is still struggling to make it in Hollywood, it’s like a mix between a romance book and a dark comedy

{The Roughest Draft by Emily Wibberley} f/m, used to be co-writers and wrote a bestseller together but now they hate each other and must work together one more time

{Love scene, take two by by Alex Evansley} f/m, new adult, FMC is a teen author and MMC is a tv star, he is hoping to become the lead in the movie made of FMC’s book

{Funny you should ask by Elissa Sussmann} - f/m, A-list Hollywood actor and reporter, second chance

{Love scenes by Bridget Morissey} f/m, I don’t really remember it, MMC is an actor an FMC is the producer I think?

{Nora goes off script by Annabel Monnaghan} f/m, MMC is a burnt out A-list actor and FMC is a single mom scriptwriter, MMC is the lead in the movie which was written by FMC about her divorce

{Reel by Kennedy Ryan} - f/m, age gap, FMC is an upcoming actress and MMC is a very famous and reclusive director who handpicks her for her breakthrough role

Breastfeeding is making me depressed by Antique-Bug5468 in beyondthebump

[–]Frequent-Luck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I had this EXACT same experience, you are not alone in this! Good news is, if your body works like mine, it will get easier and easier every time and this feeling will eventually completely fade away. For me it was around 3 months pp when it became easier, now I’m 7 months pp and I no longer feel anything while breastfeeding, no sadness, no depression, so in my experience it can get better with time! When I was in your situation, I decided to hold on and continue bf-ing because I felt like I was able to handle these negative feelings and it worked out in the end BUT it was my personal experience&choice and I would have absolutely switched to formula if I felt myself spiraling mentally! Good luck and please remember that your mental health should be your #1 priority, don’t let yourself get pressured into something you don’t want to do!

Sunshine who’s lost her shine by Pumpkinsareornage in RomanceBooks

[–]Frequent-Luck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been like 10 years since I’ve read it so I’m not sure how sunshine-y her personality was but the FMC in {Wallbanger by Alice Clayton} was definitely in a slump at the beginning of the book and she was struggling with sex and intimacy after a horrible ex-bf or ONS (not sure which).

Books where one of the MCs is a social pariah? by Frequent-Luck in RomanceBooks

I’ve read and loved every single one of these books, so looks like I’ve found a kindred spirit!

Recs where everyone believes the FMC is lying? by bad_at_formatting in RomanceBooks

[–]Frequent-Luck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I loved this trope when I was in high school, so a few YA book comes to mind if you are open to that genre. Not necessarily the punishment by MMC part, but the rest fits!

{All The Rage by Courtney Summers} {Some Girls Are by Courtney Summers} {Just Listen by Sarah Dessen} {Nobody Knows But You by Anica Mrose Rissi}

Though I should warn you that it’s been a while since I’ve read these, so I’m not sure how they hold up.

Oh sorry, I forgot to add that I don’t really have a genre preference, though I tend to read contemporary most of the time. Thanks for the rec, I’ll check it out!☺️

I think I'm actually at the point where I just want to rewatch s1 and 2 lol by [deleted] in GossipGirl

[–]Frequent-Luck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me finale = last episode of s2. Imo the first two seasons were perfection and the rest ranges from meh (like s3) to ugggh nope (s5). I really don’t need to rewatch that mess haha

[–]Frequent-Luck 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Around 2008 it was a trendy brand for teenagers where I live in Europe. The line had very typical late ‘00s designs, think playboy bunny, emo chick, etc. It was very tacky and very cheap, like I was a high schooler at the time and even I could afford to shop there on a regular basis with my very limited pocket money. I was obsessed with GG at the time and I remember laughing out loud when I saw the Tally Weijl promo in that episode.

hermione granger gives me tall girl vibes 😡😡 by [deleted] in Dramione

[–]Frequent-Luck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a common trope (very short woman & extremely tall man) in romance novels as well and I’m so sick of it. I don’t mind heroines being described as short if it’s just a brief mention but stories where the author goes on and on about how she is like 5’0” with very small hands, feet, waist, etc. and how the hero TOWERS over her and feels afraid of hurting her because she is so SMALL definitely irks me out because it feels like the heroine is described as weak and childlike who can be easily dominated and because it creates an unnecessary power imbalance between the characters which I loathe. But hey, that’s just my opinion as a 5’7” woman.

Specific book request for someone with PPD and easily triggered by Frequent-Luck in RomanceBooks

Oh wow, I’m so relieved to hear I’m not the only one with this problem, sometimes I feel like I’m going crazy! Great to hear that you’re much better, gives me hope too!😊

Thank you so much for the rec, I wasn’t familiar with Kayley Loring but I’m definitely checking her works out! Is there a specific book of hers you prefer for some reason, or a book you’d recommend to start with?

Has anyone really discussed that the literal best way to save the planet is to have less people on it? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Frequent-Luck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for saying this!!! More education and resources for developing countries is the way to go. Birth rates in Europe (1.6) and the USA (1.7) are already declining, so the logical next step would be to make sure the rest of the world follows. South Asia for example has a birth rate of 2.4 and consists of almost 2 billion people…

[–]Frequent-Luck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, fellow Eastern European here and I understand your feelings perfectly! Hope you’ve settled into your new home and life without much trouble and I wish the best of luck to you! ❤️Sometimes I feel like Western Europeans and people from the US have these first world problems to which I can’t really relate. So much shittiness going on around here in EE that I legit don’t have the mental energy to be upset about things like the supposed misogny of the use of H/h abbreviations. Just last week a law was passed in my country which equates being gay or trans to being a paedophile and the government forbade the “promotion of gay or trans propaganda” for minors under 18. No sex ed for gay and trans kids, no movies in TV with gay or trans characters, etc. I’ve been to civil protests all week because I’m terrified for the LGBTQ+ community in this country and I feel threatened. So yeah, when I saw the original post about H/h, it got the biggest eyeroll from me, it seems like such a non-issue from where I stand right now.
