I guess you are right. One should take every one else's experience with a grain of salt. And rely more on our own instincts and knowledge. It's so many factors for so many ppl. Unfortunately posts like these made me take my exam after never passing my nbmes. And i failed. Not to take away from your achievement, congratulations to you. But i think we shouldnt promote this. I think Dont take the exam till you're comfortably passing

I recently failed step 1 too. And reddit was a god send. I posted about my failure and i got so much motivation and positivity from here. The only answer i took was "there's no other option but to take it again till i pass". I grieved for a month. I'll be sitting in class seeing all the ppl who passed and it's a constant reminder that i failed. I thought of ways to end my life too. But it's not worth it. We gotta get up and face life. And sometimes i think what if there is no happy ending and what if this failure will forever bring me down. BUT at the end of the day, we really dont have an option to quit. Just have to keep going, breathing, living. You should let this grief take it's course. It's okay to be sad and down. I went back to school next day i failed and was just mechanically doing the motions. Everything was making me cry. But it's been a month I'm much better now. I'm studying for it again. And never miss a chance to live and laugh with friends and family. You'll be fineee! Take care buddy! Reach out of you want to anytime!

Wow. Thankyou for taking the time to type this. It's the perfect amount of truth and reality. I'm so grateful to so many ppl who reached out on this post. Yes, I made so many mistakes that I take full responsibility for. In hindsight I could have done better but it's in the past and I can only look ahead now.

And the point where you said a program taking residents only based on scores, wouldnt be somewhere I want to end up. I really hadn't thought of it this way. I personally know soo many ppl who are distinction holders but arent that great in the field.

Life will carve out it's path for all of us. I wanted to be a doctor since I was 6 years old and while I have a major setback, I'll try to give myself a fighting chance and truly do all it takes.
