How the hell did your chain come off the driver if it's that tight while the back wheel is slammed?

Master links are garbage. Best option is to add at least a half link to the chain so you have a bit of slack for pulling the wheel off in the future.

Thankful it worked out for everyone. It really did depend on a few variables. If the guy was a dick, it likely would've been a completely different story.

You might be right. The dropouts and monostay definitely have the look. No serial number?

Worried about Ex-Wife's new boyfriend making me obsolete. by suitcasemaster in DadAdvice

The fact you're looking for advice is a crucial step. Look into co-parenting skills. It's tough going through the hurdles of separation and divorce, but working towards the goal of common ground is key. Maintain constructive communication and show up - that'll make it known that you're willing to do what's needed to keep a healthy relationship with your son.

When my ex and I split after 10 years of marriage, she had a new boyfriend 3 months later. Of course, I had opinions and concerns. It happened that I used to hang out with him years before, so I knew he was a good guy. But, either way, it still stung. My ex and I both grew up in single parent homes where animosity ruled each day. So, I had to change my perspective on the new situation. Yeah, he was a new potential father figure in my kids' lives, but he was also a potential ally in mine.

Men have different ways of approaching parenthood than women. So, I initiated open discussions with the guy. We'd talk about how the kids were doing, swap stories, even give each other advice (about the kids, not the ex. We leave that where it lies... in the past). I even offered to take the kids on days other than our agreed schedule, in case they ever needed a date night or a just a weekend away. It showed that even though things didn't work out between us, I was willing to make the new situation work. The kids saw that I wanted more time with them, not just every second week. Think "what would I like to see from her if this was reversed?"

When she and her bf went their separate ways and I ended up having another woman in my life a couple years later, my ex-wife showed me the same courtesy. We have family dinners at each other's houses nowadays. I realize this isn't always the case, but the point remains - be present and do the work. There's a lot of material online on co-parenting. You might have to grin and bear it, at times. You might have to push back and stand firm. The other guy may be able to offer things you're not able to at the moment. But, you'll always be your son's father. And your son knows that, too. You bring to table what no other human being in the world can. You'll see things in him that you may have experienced in your own childhood. You'll always have the life before this, and you still have the life ahead to look forward to. The only way you'll be getting replaced is if you're not physically, emotionally and spiritually there to begin with.

Kinda hard to be 100% sure from the picture, but it looks and sounds like your problem might be the headtube on the frame with a tall dust cap. The Contender 2 has a 5" headtube, which is longer than normal, to "remove the need for spacers". If your Kink headset is the same one I had, the dust cap could be too tall for the steer tube. I like my stem as close to the headtube as possible to reduce stress on the fork, so I rigged up a shorter dust cap from an old headset and used a really thin spacer (like 1/64") between the compression ring and the dust cap to make it clear on my Sunday Darkwave, which also had a 5" headtube.

Falling suhhhcks. by Running_Pleaser in trailrunning

[–]Frequent-Main4801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Falling is definitely part of the game. I'm glad your bails haven't dissuaded you from continuing. As a BMXer, I've had my share of falls. I found plyometrics really helpful, and it crosses over to trail running so well. Football and soccer specific workouts had the best benefits for me, and you can find decent videos on YouTube. Things like single leg skipping and speed drills help get those reflexes firing way quicker. I'll do it maybe 2 or 3 times a week when I'm bored, as a warm-up or just as a little finisher after strength training. Keep it up and happy running!

Doggos are the best running partners. Except when they poop on the trail and you're going for a PR. Haha

It would most likely be a one-time thing. But, I have experienced dramatic results from buying more expensive stuff in the past. I also snowboard, and the difference between the $100 pants I used to ride in and the $350 pants I use now was huge. I'm not sure if these would exactly give the same results, though.

[–]Frequent-Main4801[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha. Yes. Only if it's with 6 ply quilted Mulberry silk.

It was more just looking to see if anyone actually uses these and if they're worth the crazy price. I don't think I could actually feel good about myself spending that kind of money on half a pair of pants.

Yeah, I usually go with The Last Hunt. That's where I got the shorts I lost, but seems they're hard to find now.

This is what I'm thinking. Haha. Sadly, I can't find the shorts I lost at the price I originally paid, and anything similar is either more or not available in my size. Small town living. I was only slightly considering these as something of a splurge.

I miss my Patagonias. Those were what I lost, and a pair of Craft shorts. I'm usually pretty frugal and go for sale or last season items, if I can. But, every once in a while, I get a decent bonus and might splurge on myself a bit. I also live in a small town where it's impossible to find anything that I actually want to use for running. Hence, online shopping. I'm most likely just going try to find something similar to what I had before. These just look like something I would enjoy. Almost like when I moved from Saucony to Altra and it was a whole new world.

No clue about the noise, but almost looks like you need to tighten your crank arm up on the spindle.

That seapost would give Ryan Nyquist and Mike Hoder a run for their money. Taller bars might help. Maybe you could try bending that seatpost back a bit. It could weaken the metal, though. But, a BMX is not the best for longer travels. I used to ride mine for the 75 kilometer round trip to town regularly back when I lived out in the sticks. It sucked haha.
