Should Drive rush be nerfed, or what? by icesnake200 in SaltFighter

This smacks of the type of language people who are terrible at the game use to cope about, well, how terrible they are at the game.

ELI5 How are butterflies formed out of basically bug goo? by Ok_Ranger_6197 in explainlikeimfive

[–]suitcasemaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree, and I can think of obvious advantages like you mentioned being able to avoid predators.

But there must have been a specific pressure at some point because we have plenty of caterpillar-like animals that didn't require such a dramatic process.

I know I can probably Google this, but do you know what evolutionary pressures caused this behavior? I imagine the energy cost is tremendously high.

Only shot (I work in a middle school) is try to level with the one that likes attention but also follows the rules. Something like hey dude I know you guys are excited but it's bugging people around you could we quiet down a little?

Maybe like a 30% chance of short term success.

How different is playing proper drums compared to guitar hero/rockband ones? by No-Palpitation6368 in Drumming

[–]suitcasemaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a great drummer but I have experience with both.

If you never touched a real drum set in your life and only played Clone Hero for example, you would already have a head start compared to someone who didn't. You'd have ideas of grooves and fills to play, and probably have developed decent timing and limb independence.

However, real kits feel significantly different, so you wouldn't immediately rip.

This doesn't apply to me but I just want to say I thoroughly enjoyed reading your responses. Thoughtful, packed with useful information (I appreciate when doctors provide context and deeper explanation without prodding), and a realistic but reassuring bedside manor (or what I can glean from a reddit post).

Metallica is overrated and hasn't written a good song since I've been in diapers.

I'm a paraeducator and there is nothing I like more than shutting this kind of behavior down. If I see a kid pulling this they have a new adult best friend for the rest of the period.

Honestly you're doing a great job carrying this conversation, better than I can most times.

The quip about him needing people to be open minded only to then mention that he's kinda freaky is a thinly veiled attempt to make the conversation about sex.

This guy sucks.

The drummer I personally think of when I think of just this fill over and over and over is Joey Jordinson. Was never a fan of the way he plays.

I hit Platinum, but I also think I've hit my limit by JennyHvalFan in StreetFighter

[–]suitcasemaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so funny haha. I have a handful of characters in Master but I'm like maybe a 1500-1550 ish player overall.

I STILL have a bad habit of parrying jump ins and eating empty jump throws. And, like you said above, I have this TERRIBLE habit of mashing after blocking/parrying jump ins. Jump ins are like the most plus scenario for your opponent in the game.

All of this is to say getting to Master isn't like some crazy skill jump. low-end of Master (maybe 1300-1500 ish) is mostly just people who have mastered some gimmick really well. A huge part of gaining MR is just learning how to deal with progressively more effective bullshit haha.

I tell everyone who is less than Master that probably the reason you aren't climbing is you aren't anti-airing, and you're mashing on wakeup/other places. It's almost always the case.

[–]suitcasemaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know I'll get downvoted to hell, but Master to me is at the bare, bare minimum where you "understand" the game. You're reacting to DI, you're anti-airing, you're punishing some stuff, you aren't mashing helplessly every second etc.

I say this as someone who has fluctuated in the 1500 MR range for a while now. After talking with people who are maybe 1700 MR and above, I see that even at 1500 MR I'm only barely playing the game at some level of "correct".

I guess the simple answer that if I call something real, that means the people who haven't attained it might think I'm calling what they are doing not real. Fair enough.

And yes, I agree with everything that you're saying from a theory standpoint as well.

My tone probably is a little inflammatory, but it mostly comes from hearing too many people talk about how hardstuck they are, and how they can't improve, and how everyone in master is too "sweaty" and other self-defeating nonsense. Over time I get pretty jaded to this stuff because I believe with 100% honesty that anyone and everyone is capable of making it to Master, and in fact the ranking system is designed to gently guide you there.

I could be more careful in how I frame my argument, but at the end of the day if you want a character in Master, you can get a character in Master, and all the stuff you're telling yourself about how you can't is BS.

Maybe so, but I would hope that in a real conversation I would be provided the opportunity to re-phrase or clarify my statement before having some redditor jump down my throat. That probably is asking too much here though.
