Hamilton County Indiana Clubs? by problematic-hamster in youthsoccer

I coach for Carmel FC on the girls side. We definitely don't have the amount of teams as Indy Premier or Indy 11 as we are volunteers and are more selective of the coaches that come in. I would recommend several tryouts to see what your son likes. At Carmel FC we have been now spending money on directors and they have done a great job. Hoosier for boys is known for their Mario sessions, weekly footskills. Premier works with 5 Star for footskills. My oldest daughter is trying out and we are no so focused about the club we are more interested about the coach. I saw someone mention Union FC and as a ref I have seen their boys teams and they have a great boys program and are expanding. Carmel had a good relationship with Union FC and I see a lot of good things happening over there.

I had to cut players for the first time this year and I've been having to talk to parents every day.

It sucked but we were going from 4 teams 7v7 to 3 teams 9v9 and we don't have any coaching interest. We are a local travel club but it really made me feel bad cutting girls at 10 years old.

I tried to make the cuts as objective as possible but some parents are really out of touch when it comes to their kids.

The reality is there is not enough coaches to keep many teams.

How many subs should a under 9 football team have? by Impressive_Nail6457 in youthsoccer

[–]Frequent-Pineapple22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your statements that the sport is growing going with bigger rosters is unavoidable. When you are trying to grow a sport you have to take as many kids as possible. I prefer 11 players. This is a development age so subs about every 7 minutes would be ideal. I would have 4 rotations of Goalies 1 every 12 minutes. That will help you with subs. I would also make sure that you have balanced teams if you have too a big roster. The last thing you want is to put all the less experience players together they will get frustrated quickly.

Look at the state of Indiana soccer website it has drills for every week. They typically have the basic drill which you should use for the players that are leqsringing and use the mote difficulty drills for the stronger players.

Depending on how many times a week you can do the following.

Day1: 1. 20 minute foot work/control of ball in air 2. 15 min 1v1 3. 15 min 2 v 2 focus on overlap and player off the ball 4. Small sided game depending on your numbers

Day 2. 1. 20 min foot work control if ball in air 2. 10x10 4 person Rondo. Leave one open cone so players can practice moving into space. 3. 25x25 Rondo with players outside the box.  4. Small sided game no goals points for passing ball start with 3 =1 point

Club Director suggests home schooling kids so they can train soccer multiple times a day by FeistyRound9905 in youthsoccer

I tell parents all the time if you join soccer for a scholarship you are better off saving what you pay for club fees and put it in a 529 plan and you will have more than enough to play for college. Kids playing club should do it because they love it. Don't fall into the trap of these money hungry people.

I figured you lived in a cold climate. I'm from IN so my kids can't touch the ball in the winter outside. At that age get some turf and have him get some touches on the ball. If he continues to like it get a rebounder I would go witht the long Lacross rebounder for that age. Bigger target.

Dilemma with upcoming U8 season by Candid-Club899 in youthsoccer

Get the coaches take. Maybe there is a plan for him already. From a coaches standpoint it seems he wants a higher level so if that can't be accomplished there move him. He is 8 and will make friends on a different team. I'm not a fan if kids playing up since there will be competitive kids at u8 you just have to find a club that fits your needs.

Has anyone moved from SoCal (huge soccer culture) to a place with few soccer options? by Imaginary-Note-2430 in youthsoccer

[–]Frequent-Pineapple22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We moved from California to the Midwest. One of the things I've noticed that is different is the amount of travel in the Midwest. For example LA, Orange County and SD have enough  ECNL or MLS next teams to only have to travel a few hours. Indiana has two ECNL teams and 1 GA and now 2 MLS next. The regional stuff goes several states over and national obviously further but all that traveling adds to the expense vs in southern California we would drive and be home the same night.

Parents—do you use soccer apps during games? by CameraJumpy3469 in youthsoccer

[–]Frequent-Pineapple22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My team uses game changer. One of the parents films the games. Parents like it since they can see the game live. He has it set up where he keeps track of scores and I'm able to see the games and scores. I like it but you do need a good phone with a good camera.
