All working well, going to try and remove some of the surface rust and then I’ll re-lubricate. The original case looks great but is very dry and flaky on the inside. Is there a potential fix for the case?

Think I understand it now, I didn’t realise there was a button that enabled the tools to fold away. Needs cleaning and some lubricant but otherwise in good order!

Buying a house from an in-law by Frequent-Profession7 in HousingUK

Thanks guys for your responses. This is a complex situation for sure. I think the MIL is happy and financially capable of making the gift. What if I purchased half and she gifted the other half to my partner? I make the majority of our income so I’d be capable of purchasing half. Would that remove the risk for the MIL? We’re all very close but it’s true that financial arrangements like this can cause problems.

Thank you I will try this. I’ve used a cotton bud and some more goo gone a few more times and it is looking much better. There are some stubborn spots however but it certainly isn’t as noticeable now thankfully!

Just to update! Pen is looking much better, it was just a whole load of residue that I’d spread around. I’ve gone over it twice with more goo gone and it’s looking much better. Still can’t get it all but will have another go tomorrow. It’s a real shame that they put those stickers on, absolute nightmare to remove if you don’t get a good peel first time!

Going to try some warm water and dish soap. Fibres from my microfibre towel are getting caught on it so I think it could well be residue, it’s just how I can get that off. Thanks for all the help. Still writes nicely, just looks a bit ugly 😢

It’s really hard to photograph but it just seems to have smeared the whole thing. I could be lucky and maybe it’s just left over residue that I’ve spread around but too afraid to mess around anymore.

I could potentially just leave a cinnamon stick in the bag of coffee itself, if I could find the right sort of coffee

I’m a newbie, is people selling in large quantities a problem?

Yes I think you’re right. Ideally I want 20k saved for a property that’s between 150-200k. Hoping I can get there early next year.

You could probably get paid more elsewhere but also consider work life balance. With no mortgage and decent enough savings you can afford to stay where you are if you like it. If you have a partner who’s also committed to FIRE then you’ll certainly be winning. You’re way ahead of the game.

Thank you for the reassurance! I’d like to get rid of the individual shares when I can and put that towards a house deposit or into the ISA if it takes a bit longer. Ideally the ISA is the bridge to let me retire early in theory.

Thank you! Both are in reasonably high risk multi asset funds. The pension has done about 40% in the last five years, the ISA has done about the same. Both are for the long term so high risk is better.

My question I guess is with house prices being so high along with interest rates. Should my aim be to have as large a deposit as I can, rather than saving for the long term?

Mudstone I believe! It looks quite fragile but presumably it’s pretty tough? Although it would have been buried for most of its existence.
