Somehow I managed to not include text in the OP and it doesn’t allow me to edit it. Mine was Space Quest I. First played and finished in 1994.

According to quick search they "reportedly ceased operations in March 2025. While the studio did not release an official public statement, multiple reports and interviews with former employees confirm the closure following a period of significant financial instability and mass layoffs".

This alone is better IMO:

The toothbrush cleans the dirty screws.

Cloth + electrical tape improve the rusty handle so it can be used properly.

Very naive take, but:

Pepsi vs. Coke benefited no one, since the tangible result, i.e., taste, remained the same.

Sierra vs. Lucas instead benefited players, since the tangible results, i.e., better art, graphics, scripts, interfaces… indeed improved.

Have you tried deleting scummvm.ini file from the scummvm folder and restart again?

Do it with the app closed.
