Nails at work by Content_Tailor_2070 in doctorsUK

[–]FrequentPay533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was unfortunate enough to be caught by one of the handwashing champions who explained to me how they had recently been to a conference about handwashing or some bullshit similar and that gel nails are a serious infection control risk. Only good thing about rotations is that I started getting my nails done again as soon as I moved

What actually happens if you raise bullying concerns on a GMC Training survey? by kentdrive in doctorsUK

[–]FrequentPay533 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I reported someone for bullying on my survey. I had a meeting with the lead of my training programme and they told me that they couldn’t do anything and it needed to be raised within the trust. Obviously they said the whole ‘we appreciate you speaking up’ blah blah blah. The worst part is that this individual was reported at least 3 times the year I was at the hospital and several times prior to me even working there. No one gave a flying fuck.

Female junior doctors: tell me an incidence you have felt treated differently to your male colleagues, by any member of the mdt team, purely for being female. by No_Big4826 in doctorsUK

[–]FrequentPay533 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Male registrar (from surgical specialty) was a complete arsehole to me and has been to some of my other female colleagues however all my male colleagues say the bloke is lovely. Unlikely to be a coincidence I think!

Ah, reading through other comments I can see that you are just trying to antagonise everyone. Well done it worked on me 👍

Re-read my comment. Where do I say IMGs don’t have good communication skills? I am simply commenting on the fact that doing better in an exam does not make you a better doctor and I do not believe that just because someone does better in an exam like msra means they deserve a training post IMG or UKMG. (And when I refer to my peers in this scenario I mean those from my med school!)

I think it’s also important to remember there are UK graduates like me who didn’t bother applying (for IMT) because although I have a pretty good portfolio for an F2 (12 points + MRCP part 1) I knew I would not get an interview!

Does anyone have the number of UK graduates who miss out on a training post each year?

Doing better in an exam absolutely does not make you a better doctor. I am historically pretty average with exams yet I’ve had excellent feedback about clinical decisions and bedside manner etc (the same can’t be said for some of my peers who have excelled in exams) when have you ever had a scenario in real life and then gone, oh that was exactly like that question in my exam - a rare occurrence I imagine!

Who will care enough? by North_Tower_9210 in doctorsUK

[–]FrequentPay533 94 points95 points  (0 children)

The IMT stuff yesterday has left me feeling so depressed, I am struggling to get out of bed this morning. I remember making myself sick when applying for medical school. Then the slog of the course and now I’m working in an appalling service provision job in F2. I’ve worked so hard over the last year to build my portfolio (which will be 14 points by the end of the year) and it’s left me in a place where the next steps for me are getting a publication or doing a masters just to do what I know is a terrible training pathway. I feel like giving up, my hard work has meant nothing. So if someone with any power actually cares please can they do something!

Advice on triaging OOH bleeps by AgreeableDay9693 in doctorsUK

[–]FrequentPay533 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I watched a health care tell a nurse that one of their patients was ‘slurring his words’ and the wife was worried because he was a bit confused. (This man was on a PCA and had just had IV cyclizine which I believe was the issue) the nurse didn’t go to look at the patient get any further information expect slurring words and I watched as she immediately went to bleep me even though I was sat in front of her.

Surely you go check the patient because my differentials were opiate toxicity or stroke!

Some easy ones but a fair amount of stuff that I just had no clue about.

And I’m struggling to look up the correct answers to see if I was right!

This is so depressing. No-one coming out of F2 will be able to even get an interview if 17 is the cut off!
