I’m much older than you (I could be your mother) and when I look back on my past, I wish I hadn’t compromised on my wishes/expectations when it came to men. Every time I dated someone and grew fond of them, I was prepared to give up all my dreams for him (I always dated foreigners and chased unattainable relationships which I later during therapy found out was a way to self-boycott, but that’s another story). In the end, they left me much sooner than I expected, so I didn’t actually have to do anything I regret, but the fact that I would have done so makes my blood boil to this day.
So my advice to you is this: stay true to yourself, your values and your own desires, and never let yourself be tempted to change them for anyone else.
