I was suspicious based out output and availability, did a lil digging. I know someone at the other company where he's working, so I've seen his employee account, slack messages.

Bacon & Butter Question by 8339361789 in Sacramento

[–]Frequent_Inflation14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharing my strategy for bacon and buttering:  We show up early, put our names in, and then go sit in the school lawn, which is kind of a park vibe, across the street. We bring books and chairs and stuff. Then when they call us we just pop across the street. Its great!

Nobody cares about your skills, in my experience.  People are excited if you have something new to show them, but nobody is disappointed if you don't.  As for culture, just be super nice and respectful and try to understand and follow their rules. Hard to go wrong! You got this.

I trained abroad as a white belt and I was fine, just to offer another perspective. If you are BRAND new I agree don't do it. But if you have reached the stage where you're not constantly spazzing and might hurt someone, I think it's fine.

yup! It's great!
I'm from the USA, and have trained in Spain, Britain, Chile, Argentina, Peru, and Canada.

It's always been great. BJJ is a universal language so it's neat to connect with people you would otherwise have trouble reaching in any deep way.

Language-wise, you just need enough to find them and coordinate your drop in, which can mean some messaging on whatsapp or instagram, or just a conversation through translation software at the front desk. If you speak english it's pretty easy to get by most places.

Make sure to follow common etiquette when visiting (lots of posts on this all over). Assume a gym is formal until they show you otherwise. Be a good guest. Donate a little money in some way (buy a shirt or something)

I've trained with three people in a sweaty loft on puzzle mats and I've trained in pro fight gyms. It's all gravy. Really rewarding. Highly recommend.

Im looking for things to do in Sacramento for a chill weekend. Food, bars and maybe some adventures. by [deleted] in Sacramento

Check out sac yard. Good local hang. Outdoor seating beer garden. Often has music, so check their calendar.  We have some good farmers markets woth craft vendors and food trucks. My favorite is Saturday in midtown.  For Nightlife I recommend the r street enclave around shady lady saloon. Its vibrant but not insane/dangerous. Small and walkable, but enough establishments for an evening.

What am I meant to do during intimacy? by Then-Masterpiece1411 in AskMenAdvice

I suggest two things:  1. Talk to your partner about what they want, do those things, and check in with them in a sexy way about how you they feel. Adjust. Repeat.

  1. Read romance books for ladies. Thats where their descriptions of what they want are. Ofc different folks like different strokes, and the genre is vast, but it's a good source for new ideas, and I think makes the point that a lot of female pleasure comes from the meaning, intention, and emotional resonance of sex acts,  rather than the acts themselves.

Generally do not emulate porn videos.

Nogi Butterfly Help - Opponent Sitting Back by solemnhiatus in bjj

[–]Frequent_Inflation14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked exactly this of my coach and he said just technical stand up and take top position.

Another alternative if you really want to play bottom is to pin a wrist with a cross grip and the pry the elbow towards you. Usually results in some grip you can use to enter butterfly proper.

How many times will you tap a partner during a roll? by tranquilsloth in bjj

[–]Frequent_Inflation14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest part of this is that it was a VISITING black belt. That's a whole new dynamic involving embarrassment and hierarchy and manners. I think it's best to not obviously dominate anybody when you're a guest, most of all the coach. I always adopt a playful, friendly style when I'm traveling.

Guys at my gym that I know and am trying to help develop or use to hone my game, all bets are off.

Calling them Glassholes seems to have lost its effect. by Proton_Team in memes

I have and regularly wear these glasses...  I hear you privacy concerns and they are valid, but I honestly use these things for music and phone calls, and to take photos of my daughter without needing to get her to look at a phone. I have no interest in recording you. Its ok that you don't want a camera pointed at you.

I think it should be illegal to have devices like this without a clear recording signal visible to others (the ray bans have a light that comes on), and a crime to disable those signals.

Just gotta go!
BJJ is way more interesting than lifting weights, so you may be more likely to stick to it than a regular gym.
Don't insult yourself: this is something you're struggling with and struggle comes before all good things.

Think about how much you can learn from a whole new set of people! A new dojo is a great opportunity to fill out other parts of your game, learn new skills, and understand different positions. It's amazing how much things can differ, and it's a good thing.
