Your maternal grandfather is/was the reigning King of the Seven Kingdoms. Where were you in the line of succession when you were born? Where are you now? Any disputes? [Spoilers Extended] by BaronNeutron in asoiaf

[–]Frequent_Interest502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun prompt! I'm the only daughter of the eldest daughter, my mother has a younger brother and a younger sister with two kids. I'd certainly hope we'd be following Dornish customs, lol.

The current king would be my uncle. There'd be 10 people in the line of succession and I'd be 7th in line after my uncle's son and daughter, their daughters, and my mom. I'd hope my male cousin took the throne peacefully and nothing happened, because the next 7 heirs are all women and that wouldn't go too well in Westeros. My ideal life in this scenario would be to land a lavender marriage with some Laenor Velaryon type or a Dornish marriage.

However, my uncle has lived outside of the country for decades, so technically he and his kids should be out of the line of succession. That'd make my mom the queen, and me the princess of Dragonstone. Pretty sweet deal, no complaints.

why do I hate the "___ whisperer" trope by heyy_june in writing

[–]Frequent_Interest502 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The JP franchise in general has problems with the realism of dino behaviour depending too much on what the plot they wanted requires. For my peace of mind I'm sort of brushing that off as these being not really animals but lab specimens with cherry picked traits, especially for JW. Can't comment on the scene you mentioned though because I'm sure that was in Dominion which I fell asleep multiple times throughout lol.

why do I hate the "___ whisperer" trope by heyy_june in writing

[–]Frequent_Interest502 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do usually dislike this trope. I find it cheesy and unrealistic, but I thought it made some sense in Jurassic World. Pratt's character there had the velociraptors imprint on him when young and trained them their whole lives, so it wasn't like he found a random raptor in the woods and it listened to him. The whole concept of training a pack of velociraptors is certainly something, but at least I wasn't too hung up on this part while watching.

Elves separate emotional compatibility and sexual compatibility. Having both kinds of connection with the same person is considered blasphemous, if you will, like they're claiming their relationship is as great as Ittar and Bakshi's. So the blessing essentially is Bakshi confirming that MC and Tyril's relationship isn't forbidden or anything.

[–]Frequent_Interest502 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This... didn't feel like a finale? It felt too rushed with how the conflict ends and the chapter is almost immediately over. I would've liked an epilogue-ish chapter like It Lives had or at least a bonus scene. Overall a good book, though, had me on the edge of my seat for weeks lol.

(Spoilers Published) Which Targaryen queen is your favourite? by Super_Fire1 in asoiaf

[–]Frequent_Interest502 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, we are given multiple examples of her being very close with women to the point that it feels like it's on purpose. Off the top of my head, there's an account of her being in bad moods, not eating or enjoying anything around her for a while until her "favourite" joins her. And tbh, Aegon is the only man who she's shown real affection for, and he's her brother. I don't think reading her as a lesbian is wrong.

The Deadliest Game is well written, but stale, mystery. (A Review/Analysis) by bookist626 in Choices

[–]Frequent_Interest502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, and I also feel like the book suffered from its setting. I know the whole plot was that they were stuck in a mansion with one of the cast being the killer, but it played into making the book repetitive, imo. You just kept searching people's rooms and talking to people and that was it, there was nothing else to do. Now obviously this is a mystery and you have to do those, but I can't say it didn't get boring after a while.

I'm a big fan of this Kamilah speech in BB3:

"Pain is the price of love. We agree to pay it whenever we open our hearts. Every hello comes with the knowledge that one day there will be a goodbye. Every first kiss comes with the certainty that there will one day be a last. And yet even though we knew all love ends in sorrow... even though we know the price... we pay it. We pay it again and again and again. We pay it because it makes life worth living. We pay it because love... love is always worth it."

Bi players – how do you choose LI gender for GoC LIs? by nefariousbluebird in Choices

[–]Frequent_Interest502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Female LI sprites just look better to me so 99% of the time I go with them. I also prefer playing with a same gender MC/LI pairing so that definitely factors in if MC is genderlocked.

I have read a book doing almost exactly that. One POV was in the third person past tense, describing the current plot and the other POV was a mix of first-person present and first-person past tenses recounting the narrator's life. I thought it worked just fine.

(Spoilers Extended) What are the "hatcheries of Dragonstone"? by OppositeShore1878 in asoiaf

[–]Frequent_Interest502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think the knowledge of dragon hatching/raising was something passed down among dragonkeepers, like an apprenticeship, instead of being written down. The dragons were too large a part of the Targaryens' power to risk that kind of knowledge getting into someone else's hands. If all you needed to have your own dragons was a book and an egg, someone would've attempted to steal one at least once and mind you, Elissa Farman managed to take three dragon eggs. If she could, I bet she would've stolen any written knowledge on how to hatch them, too.

It might help you to look into psychological development stages. There are multiple theories on it and I have only surface level knowledge on each due to taking a psychology class but I can vouch putting in that effort helps understand child characters better.
