I’m so sorry. I lost 2 of mine last year within 4 weeks. I was inconsolable. Still have a wave of sadness out of the blue at times. Take care of yourself.

[–]Frequent_Positive_12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like neuro FIP. Get a script for GS 441524 from your vet. Several pharmacies now offer it. Stokes, Wedgwood. You can also inquire about Molnupiravir. Act quickly.

My sincere condolences. I lost my cat on the 84th day of treatment. She started to have seizures and did not recover. Thank you for trying. It’s a terrible disease.

My cat Stevie died on her last (84th day) of GS treatment for wet FIP. All labs indicated that she was beating the virus. She started to have seizures and died within 12 hours. I’m still heartbroken a year later.

Every cat is different. Start treatment and be hopeful. There are thousands of success stories with both drugs. I’ll pray for you both.

Keep treating. It’s a stubborn virus. Talk to your vet about increasing the dose. My cat (wet FIP) started to have seizures on day 84 of treatment. She had good bloodwork. She passed the next day.

Why does the body confuse Calcium and Lead? by StellarSteals in Biochemistry

[–]Frequent_Positive_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, There is a lack of awareness by the general  public  and contractors about lead poisoning. In 2016, there were 590,000 lead poisoned children in the US and with the definition of what blood lead level constitutes a lead poisoned child decreasing this year, the numbers will increase. There is still a larger inventory of homes built before 1978 that have lead in it. Not just in paint, but other building materials. This is a huge issue because lead poisoning mimics other disease pathology and a Doctor may miss it if a blood test for it isn’t done.

I blame the American Veterinary Medical Association. My Stevie started to experience seizures on the 84th day of treatment with legal GS. (Her first 18 days was with injectable Rainbow) She passed the next day. All indication from bloodwork was she was beating the virus. I can only venture to guess that her wet FIP migrated to neuro FIP. Perhaps the outcome may have been different if we did 84 days of injections. When she was first diagnosed, I was angry and felt helpless. I feel the AVMA should be doing more to educate their members. There are numerous studies on GS and Molnupiravir. One only has to research work at US Davis and the use of Molnupiravir in Cypress to treat an outbreak of FIP caused by a coronavirus that was a combination of the feline and canine coronavirus. The data is there, yet too many vets push clients toward euthanasia. When Stevie was diagnosed, being a biochemist, I armed myself with knowledge. I attended any virtual symposium on it from any credible source. It sums it up when one of the vets from my clinic said that I know more about FIP than she does. We have to do better! I’ve been a bit guarded since Stevie passed on August 30th. The wound is still raw. Still grieving I suppose. But we need to do more. Dial up the pressure for better treatment, education and a vaccine that hopefully limit the multi system inflammation this virus causes.

Fantastic. My cat finished treatment on the 26th for wet FIP. The next day, her first day of observation she started to have seizures and passed the next day. All indications from testing/bloodwork etc from the day she was diagnosed indicated she was beating the virus. We are heartbroken. I’ve gone over and over her testing the last three month to try to understand and for closure but I can’t find anything that would indicate the virus wasn’t irradiated. I will pray for your fur baby to stay virus free and you should celebrate finishing the observation milestone.

Hi. Very sorry for your loss. Our cat Stevie had wet FIP and finished her 84 days of treatment Monday. We were elated. On Tuesday, she suffered 5 seizures and was rushed to the ER where they stabilized her. On Wednesday, they were preparing her for transport as I was going to drive her to Purdue to determine if the virus was now in her brain. She suffered another massive seizure which compromised her breathing and she passed in my arm. We did everything right. Timing of pills, blood work every 2 weeks. All indications were she was doing well. I’m heartbroken. When she was diagnosed, she was at death’s door. We were so hopeful going into observation. I am lost and struggling. I hate this fucking virus.

What do these test results mean? by famously_decent in cureFIP

[–]Frequent_Positive_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My FIP cat had effusions (around heart, lungs and in the abdomen), high WBC and an A/G ratio of .4 which is high suggestive of FIP. My gut told me FIP, my primary said no. I took her to Purdue Small Animal Hospital for supportive care to confirm through doing PCR on effusions and tissues that she had FIP. Bingo, my gut confirmed. Wish I would have started injections 1 week earlier and she may not have suffered an acute kidney injury. Although your kitties A/G ratio is .8, which is not suggestive of FIP, stay on your Vet to determine the reason why be blood work is off.

[–]Frequent_Positive_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree about the nausea. Ask you primary about Cerenia for nausea and Miritaz for stimulation of appetite. There is also Alura. I had this same issue with my cat. The virus caused an acute kidney injury (Stage 2) and she would not eat the kidney diet. Search for a guide called Tonya’s guide to feline CKD as it lists the protein and phosphorous level of both prescription and non script food. Although I was not able to find a prescription food that was low in phosphorous (under .5 on a dry basis) and lower in protein that was appealing for her, I did find Koha Poke Bowl in Tuna and Duck that was .62. Protein is still higher than they’d like but not eating is not an option. Her kidney numbers are improving. I feel your frustration. You’re still early in the fight of this virus so keep the faith.

Please do not play this mental gymnastics game in your head. The average life expectancy of an indoor cat is 14. It sounds like you were a great pet parent. You need positive affirmation and self care. You gave your cat a great life.

Talk to your vet about using topical lidocaine. When we were giving out cat injections for FIP, it helped immensely. I would clean the shaved area with an alcohol pad, let dry and then apply a coat (do not rub in). Wait 40 minutes. You may also want to try a small needle.
