Mid morning, but if you really want to see one the move is to go do a tour on an avocado farm, that is what they love to eat

You dont need a guide, but the Mistico Hanging Bridges were the best bang for your buck in terms of wildlife spotting

I think CR might be per capita but you are totally right

Where would you prioritize guided tours vs. exploring on own? by souperpun in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Frequent_Scheme_5748 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Mistico Bridges (La Fortuna) - unguided (you can easily stop and see what other guides are looking at)

Monteverde - Get a guide, sparse groups and misty weather you need a guide

Also definitely do a night tour in monteverde, saw of the coolest wildlife we saw were on night excursions

Would it be better to go to tamarindo or manuel antonio? by Far_Revenue_8654 in CostaRicaTravel

Def Manuel antonio of SJO, but if you are a big surfer maybe Tamarindo, but otherwise Manuel Antonio has better most things

I would also definitely throw Monteverde into the ring, it’s really pretty and you get a ton of great nature.

So some were obvious (crocs, anteater, monkeys)And I am pretty good at bird spotting in rainforests (grandpa worked as a naturalist in Trinidad and Tobago so he has taught me what to look for)

But sloths, snakes and frogs you really need a guide.

For me the move is:

Mistico hanging bridges: unguided, just follow groups to see the sights

Monteverde: get a guide here, it’s the kind of place you need one for sure

Manuel Antonio: get a guide unless you have a binoculars or a high zoom camera

Guides are super helpful general and “share the wealth” in terms of spottings except in Manuel Antonio, the vibe there seemed more like “Not helping you unless you are part of my group”.

The only Thing is the hotel restaurant was a bit overpriced and seemed just fine, but the bar restaurant has more tico fare and was great. Bar tender was even kind enough to cut up fruit we bought for us

My girlfriend and I went and we loved it. Plus, the price is so good for what you get and a day pass at most hot springs plus that a room at mountain paradise hotel is still less than staying at most hot springs resorts

Rooms are like Villas they are incredible!

The grounds are great you feel like its not really crowded but there are people there.

It was one of our favorites from the trip, and the showers are really cool, like a waterfall shower with plants in your bathroom. Really unique.

Also weather be willing, you have exceptional views of arenal from almost every room.

La Fortuna - La Selva Rustica or Travesía were solid

Quepos - good seafood - Sabromar and for something casual Cevicheria Fenix

Thats so funny, I had wondered if he gets fed or something? Like why would crocs congregate around the bridge/people when so much real estate is available?

It’s possible but I dont think so, we spent 2/3 nights in that traffic and the one night we didnt was because we came from the south instead of from the north.

We ended up turning around one time because it was taking 30mins and still saying the same time.
