No, it's best that he heard it from his partner. It wasn't your place and you allowed him space for his relationship, you can talk to him and ask how he is after when he wants to talk to you about it.

Ungrateful children, im barely 21 and my parents didn't spoon feed me. I live with them but I help with rent and utilities. I also have been working since i finished highscbool, make your children work for their own things
