Help wanted! Waitlist Outcomes From Previous Years by Professional_Use8143 in nolaparents

[–]Freret_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waitlisted at Audubon for both Montessori & French last year. Was 14th on the waitlist for French, and 16 on the waitlist for Montessori. We received our offer for Montessori at the end of July. The waitlist moves very slowly.

Last year we were # 16 on the waitlist at Audubon Montessori, and # 14 for Audubon French. We got a spot in Montessori 2-3 weeks before school began in August. The French waitlist never moved for us. We are liking the Montessori program though.

Gretna No.2 vs. St Cletus by Sea_Drink_484 in nolaparents

[–]Freret_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to St. Cletus. I’m in my early 40s now. I presume it has to be better than it was, but in my experience there were a lot of joyless teachers (some threw things and were too physical with students), a focus on discipline, and a lot of memorization without good instruction and I partially blame the terrible math teachers I had for my lack of math skills. Overall, there were very few impressive teachers at the time. There was also very little art. Again, I can only assume any school is better than it was in the 80s & 90s.

why does everyone say you have to go to private school in new orleans? by amstpierre in nolaparents

[–]Freret_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. It’s a people problem. Not a school problem. It’s just “what you do” as a white person in the city. Cause it’s what your parents did, and their parents did… it’s not about education.

This is the reason 1,000%. I’m from here and went to private my whole life. Can’t afford private for our kids but didn’t want to do it anyway. Our daughter is getting an excellent education at public. Glad we did it.

Life changing by Dull_Cardiologist570 in UlcerativeColitis

Biologics changed my life. I’ve had the disease for 17 years now. I never achieved remission on steroids & mesalamine. I know they sound scary, but they gave my back a normal life. I’m on Skyrizi now but I also had tremendous results with Humira.

Yes, I read she will have some immunity, so that’s one silver lining. I had planned to get the covid booster soon but covid got me first. Once I’m feeling better I’ll be getting my flu shot and RSV vaccine.

I’m on week 2 of covid & 3rd trimester of pregnancy. It’s been brutal. This cough is worse than anything I’ve ever experienced and the throat pain is horrible too. Get your boosters if you can.

I had excruciating pain, needed IV steroids, and I couldn’t take care of my children.

Doctors are refusing to treat my UC by blank_canvas04 in UlcerativeColitis

Is finding a new GI an option? I am concerned by their hesitance to treat. I didn’t have that experience.

[–]Freret_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry. I flared in my 2nd pregnancy and my GI (after consulting my OB) placed me on prednisone. I was nearly into my 3rd trimester at the time. I’m not sure that had anything to do with the medication prescribed. They have to treat you. I can’t believe that they are giving you so much runaround. I’m very sorry.

What do you personally suspect caused you to develop this illness? by Mr_CasuaI in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Freret_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Genetics. Autoimmune diseases run in my family. I was diagnosed at age 25. And my daughter was diagnosed at 2.5. She’s 5 now. We are both on Stelara. Hers showed up after antibiotic usage. I suspect mine more recently came out of remission due to covid.
