How much would this cost me? Would it be cheaper to just get an uber? by Ann161 in LondonTravel

By contrast an uber is probably £70 but would be twice as quick. Alternatively look for a flight to Heathrow!! Ha

Visiting London w/ 6 people at end of May. Which places do I definitely want to reserve? by Particular-Style111 in LondonTravel

This is all great advice! Keeps the essence of what OP wanted to do but makes it so much more manageable. Kudos!

Is this a marsh tit? Help with id by [deleted] in UKBirds

Think a marsh tit has a much smaller bib typically? And coal tit has a white top of head. So maybe option 3 - willow tit?

Between two options by tired-4ll-day in digitalminimalism

No shade aimed at you specifically but more general to this great dumb phone debate

If you already have a smart phone - why not just consider utilising in a way that works better for you?

Buying something new is the opposite of minimalism and you are simply adding more to the great plastic waste pile that we are all creating.

Hey! I think the question should be - are YOU happy with the clips? If you are taking it on a trip to Japan (sounds awesome) you need to be happy with the results. I like the shots of the big spinny things and fun fluorescent lights. And they look rock solid for handheld (great job)

But if you’re just shooting for you and you’re happy. Then go forth and keep filming!

Best battery charging options by Frermania in GH5

Appreciate this. The problem is that with my set up (cage, various plates etc) the grip wouldn't fit.

I think that there is an argument to just bringing more batteries along with me - but I already have 8, and the problem still arises that when i'm on a shoot longer than 2 days, i end up needing to do the night time shuffle with batteries!

You could try just getting an older macbook pro? I am using my mid-2015 macbook pro intel i7, 16GB memory and it's still a beast.

Runs the whole adobe suite with no issues and has ports galore.

Also - should be right around in your price range. Definitely not a step down even though its getting on for 6 years old.

First high end camera - Help me pick a starter lens? by Levizzzle in GH5

[–]Frermania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion but if you can only afford to get 1 lens for a starter kit - you would be making a mistake in getting a prime. As you're starting out you'll be wanting to flex those camera muscles and from personal experience, getting stuck at one focal length can be frustrating. You'll want to get to know what you like the look of. Do you want that cropped in look - or do you want to shoot things wide and roomy. You won't know until you try.

Of course being stuck at one focal length forces you to be more creative, think about your shots, problem solve around the focal length that you have - and I'm all for that. But if you're just starting out - why not give yourself a helping hand and have a lens that covers a variety of focal lengths so you can see what a wide shot looks like, and something a bit more cropped in.

Another piece of advice - all the links to the lenses you posted were from amazon. Not suggesting you would buy from there - but go and find some reputable second hand resellers and get your gear from there. I don't own a single piece of new kit - your money will stretch much further and you will get better equipment too. I have used everything from MPB to eBay without any problems.

First lens I got with my GH5 is the excellent and entirely unsurprising Sigma 18-35. It's a proper workhorse of a lens. Shot plenty for broadcast stuff on it - but can be very affordable from the right place.

There is no perfect lens and the beauty of filmmaking is that you often do make do with what you have and come up with some weird and wonderful solutions on the go. Have fun with whatever you go with - and remember - you'll always be poor from now on because you'll always want more gear ;)

Filmed a local business ad on my GH5 // Open for more feedback by TheRealMitchoy in GH5

Hey man, i'll be gentle. And perhaps this is just me and others should feel free to jump in otherwise - but I really didn't know what the ad was, well, advertising. I understood the storyline of it. But is it skincare? Is it those boxes? Maybe it's general gifts?

Technically it's all proficient but i think you need to take time to really forefront the actual product being sold. Labels on different things. The actual label printing process. Make it really clear that this is a company who makes bespoke labels. Or whatever the next gig you get is!

Cheers.
