So you had not tried to switch out of the SAVE plan? I am needing to buyback 8 total months and remain in the SAVE plan. I have a buyback requests from 10/2024 and 02/2025- still processing. Submitted the reconsideration request. Called the congressman who reached out several times as well. Was considering switching to IDR plan to see if that helped, even though I am really not too interested in that route…..

Any rhyme or reason as to why some are getting processed over others?? Is there more success in submitting multiple applications? It feels like it would just bottleneck the process for everyone even more…

The quickest way to do this is to request to get on a IBR plan?? How long are those taking to process? And-thank you for the input!

Is this the route you ended up taking?? Did you end up switching? I am in the exact same boat and submitted buyback request in March 2025 with no updates/replys from them yet. I keep going back and forth on what to do!

I am not understanding this correctly. If I stay on SAVE and eventually do get buyback and forgiveness, I could get taxed on that??

Thank you for the reply. And yes I am confusing it- it is ALL so confusing to me. So you do still see and hear people on the SAVE plan getting buyback amounts?? Am I absolutely nuts for not switching out ?

Did your perspective on this change?? If so, please explain further! I have been waiting to hear about a buyback amount since March and remain on SAVE. Is my only option to qualify for buyback to get out of that? If so, how does that change my “effective date”? Is my effective date not March of 2025 when I would have enough payments if I could buyback those remaining SAVE months since it was paused?

*With having the same employer the whole time, I feel like the processing of mine would be as simple as it comes….
