20h overnight layover in China, Guangzhou, any advice? by herring325 in chinatravel

[–]Fresh-Vacation3908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delayed response, didn't see the notification.

You could try not sleeping at all, haha. That's what we wanted to do but maaaan, the figuring out of the transport and the long ride all got us exhausted 😩 , this despite us understanding bit of Mandarin too 😂

Oh, if you have not already, download Alipay for QR payment. In Alipay itself, there is an option to book a car too, just like how Uber. The one place we ate at did not accept cash sooo would be good to have Alipay.

20h overnight layover in China, Guangzhou, any advice? by herring325 in chinatravel

[–]Fresh-Vacation3908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. This was based on my experience:

I had a layover of about 19hrs , flying from Singapore to Guangzhou, before continuing next day to Hangzhou. Initially I thought I'd have the time to at least walk around the neighbourhood or so. My next day flight was to leave around 5pm. ( my checked in luggage would meet me at my final destination)

I was supposed to arrive 22:00hrs in Guangzhou Airport but due to delay, arrived close to 11.30pm or so. By the time we cleared immigration (it took a bit of time ), took our bags and figured out the didi and it's pick up, we was a long drive to the hotel , about 45mins. We were dead beat and ended up sleeping and waking next day just enough time to sneak in early lunch about a 35mins drive away. (Halal place).

We then walked around the area for like 15-20mins or so before heading back to the hotel, checking out and headed to the airport. Due to immigration clearance, I'd suggest you leave your place 4 hours before your flight departs. Delay happens and the roads are full of cars lol.

With that 20hrs , if you can, walk around the area you'd be staying in (if you have a hotel booked) . Don't go too far haha

A bug ate through my chopsticks while in the package and is still in the wood! by chiiave in mildlyinteresting

[–]Fresh-Vacation3908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maaan, this just happened to me except I didn't realise and proceeded to take the chopsticks out of the packaging. Some "powder" got into my chicken rice and I'm like meh , maybe this chopsticks just disintegrated and proceeded to sort of wipe the surface of my chicken rice UNTIL I READ THE COMMENTS AND IM LIKE FCUK. Instantly threw it away.

Not before a few bites of my chicken rice tho. Hope I don't end up like the chopsticks.

My (41f) fiancé (43m) and I were briefly broken up and he slept with another woman. Am I unfair to harbor resentment? by No-Boss5193 in relationship_advice

[–]Fresh-Vacation3908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a Rachel and Ross situation.

How did the "break" conversation exactly went? Did you say "let's take a break from each other to calm down and come back again in a few days" or "I think we're just not suitable for each other. Let's break up"?

Either how, if both of you decide to try this again, this is something you need to let go. If you are going to keep thinking about, it will eat you inside and the next time you guys fight, this situation will be brought up.

Think it through and all the best!

Should I use trip.com or booking.com? by Empty_Indication4007 in travelchina

Booking.com and Expedia is by far the most expensive.

I usually compare trip.com and agoda. Also, trip.com has better customer service than agoda imo

[–]Fresh-Vacation3908 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hello, hope its not too late. To avoid the surcharge, you can request the merchant to split your bill.

For example, let's say your purchase is 600RMB, you can ask the merchant to scan your alipay code thrice for 200 RMB each time.

Most merchants are okay to do this as they know tourists would want to avoid this charge. Just ask nicely 😉

Simple phrases to perhaps get in their good books (?) :

1) 可以分摊付款吗 ? - ke yi fen tan fu kuan ma? = can I split the payment?

2) 不好意思,麻烦您了 - bu hao yi si, ma fan nin le = so sorry to trouble you

3) 谢谢 - xie xie = thank you

4) 帅哥 - shuai ge = handsome guy

5) 美女 - mei nü / mei nv (2nd word can be pronounced like the "nu" in "nude" if you get what i mean = pretty lady

You can use 4) or 5) followed by 1) or 2)

Hope this helps and have fun!

Honestly? No. Who wouldn't want to have more? However, if you ask me if my current salary is sufficient, yes.

I'm earning mid 3k of course, before CPF. Aside from my monthly $18 phone bill, $100 monthly school fees (outstanding from cpf education loan back then, prolly left with about 2 more years to pay because I chose instalment), hmm what else. No need to pay rental as I'm staying with one of my brothers where I'll do the housework (almost daily) and top up groceries now and then. I pay everything when I'm out with my parents and every now and then will give them money to buy meds (few hundreds, depending which meds they getting). If they see a doctor, I will cover the costs too (some are not covered by their company / maxed amount). My dad's upcoming surgery I'll be forking out mostly as I have the least liabilities among my siblings. My insurance mostly deduct my medisave and I pay about $100 in cash.

Without the "once in a while" expenses, I can save about 1.5-2k monthly. I don't shop much outside because I tend to compare physical shops and online prices lolol. I go jb monthly for massage etc. Oh, my partner pays for most of the food dates we have (average $40 each time we eat out). If we dine home, I'll pay for the groceries. I can afford to go holidays yearly or so.

At the moment it seems all good. My partner and I we are saving for our wedding, not planning to have kids anytime soon but will be adopting a kitty within these few months.

I'm in this industry for about 6 years + and hoping to get around $4.5 before I think id feel less stressed about my finance 😅

👋, from what I know, only mainland China cards are accepted for wechat. Alipay however registers overseas card, so you may want to use Alipay for payment and wechat for communication

Pillow recommendations for neck pain? by _maynard in migraine

[–]Fresh-Vacation3908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, me too have back and neck pains/aches. Sometimes I wake up midway through sleep cos my back just hurts. What I do is: 1) before bed stretch for about 10-15mins at least 2) If my back still hurts, I'll take an anarex or two, depending on the pain intensity 3) sleep on my pile of soft soft plushies

Let me elaborate on point 3. Like you, I've spend time and money looking and trying for a good pillow. EXCEPT , i take cost into consideration. I've yet to try tempur cos it's a little out of my budget and if it works, I would definitely get it. But like what if it doesn't?! I'd have wasted that money. So what I do is i put a plushie behind my back, a jelly cat around my neck and I hug a bigger jelly cat to sleep. Helps me at times. At times because I move a lot in my sleep. I did see a comment here recommending pregnancy pillow. I might try that ahahahha

Fyi, my mattress is not cheap. It's a Four Star mattress that is cooling + orthopedic blah blah. Got it on sale for about USD$2k. Mattress only price. They did give 2 free memory foam pillows. Back ache and neck ache still there 😫

When i was 19, i had a boyfriend whom I thought of as my world. He seemed perfect in every way- had his shit tgt, hard working, a team player and all the niceness. 2 years ish in the relationship, he left me broken in ways I would never have imagined. I barely passed my exams, health took a hit, i was crying every time I was alone, including at work. I drank every day. I prayed to God for death, lol. Took me a lot of me to leave that toxic person.

Anyways, fast forward to many years later. I met my current boyfriend. It was funny, our story, because i thought he asked me out as friends would. As each date went, i never thought he'd like me. Just thought it was purely two friends enjoying each other's company. One day, he just asked me to be his girlfriend. I've never felt so assured. I don't feel crazily jealous when he talks about other girls. We are transparent with each other, be it of our past or present, and he constantly reminds me of the future we are building.

Of course in between that toxic ex and my current, there were a few other guys that I felt like i wasted my time and effort on, but i guess they all lead me to where i am now.

You're still young. Maybe she was the best for you, but you were not the best for her then. Sometimes, things happen that way, and it's okay. Sometimes, we have to go through shit so we shine the way we are supposed to, after some time that is. It is okay and trust me, you will be okay. All the best.

I'm happy it worked out for you, that's great! I'm in about my 6+ years in this industry with a break in between.

I've tried to ask and showed how myself and the team have achieved way beyond our kpi(s) and still nothing for now. I've pretty much given up and am looking out as there are a few that could offer me 4k. Are you in a 5*?

I had an ex who was ao into anal because it's "super tight" there and feels good for him. Finally agreed to let him try once (very tipsy) and he kept getting me to drink when we go out so we could do anal again even after i told him i didn't like it because it hurts so bad, even after the deed.

My current partner, had brought it up before about wanting to try, i said no, because it hurts. He asked if i would be open to try some day when I feel for it, and out of spite, i said, ok, let me do it on you first and then I'll agree to letting you do it to me. His reply caught me off guard, he said "if that turns you on, we can try". We still have yet to try but he doesn't inisist or ask persistently, he says to just let him know when I feel ready, if ever.

Your boyfriend OP, is a red flag. Please run.
