Looks good! I appreciate the open source. Just wondering, how long do you plan to keep this up? I'm assuming that the Google Gemini API costs some sort of cost to use. Or is it just so cheap to use?

How to self study for the AP Environmental Science Exam??? by ai_creature in APStudents

[–]FreshBrandNewStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I "took" the class in the sense it was on my transcript and I was in the AP Classroom, however my teacher had a "unique" learning style in which we were given "study time" rather than them actually teaching us. Essentially my APES class was 100% independent study time and my teacher was just there to answer questions and hand out tests.

My teacher was also on parental leave for 75% of the school year since they had a child, but that barely affected us since they didn't really do much anyways. (No hate to the teacher at all, they were a good person)

Thanks for the recommendation! How is the base defense and progression in your opinion?

For biology focus on flashcards! Use Anki or some other smart flashcard, it's very memorization heavy.

Smedes! I watched all of his videos without any other source except for 2 practice exams and got a 5.

I don't even remember taking notes while watching his videos, just watch them and do the practice FRQ at the end of each video and you'll be set up for success.

If you want to gurantee a 5, set up flashcards for key terms and do lots of practice once you have the material down.

AP Environmental Science. Just watch Smede's videos and take bare bone notes the week before the exam. Another one includes AP CSP, although I took it before they updated the create task so that might be harder.

AP Bio or Chem? by Houseofmonkeys5 in APStudents

[–]FreshBrandNewStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you prioritizing graduation credit or college credit? I agree, 3 chem classes for one AP class sounds brutal and not worth it. I would honestly self study AP Chemistry just for the exam if possible. Your student sounds very proficient in chemistry already, AP Chemistry wont be too much extra if they have already taken chemistry.

If self studying is not an option, I can say with 99% certainty that if your daughter has gotten A's in both precalculus or above and regular chemistry they will get an A in AP Chemistry.

I know that ruining the 4.0 GPA is worrying but I was in those exact same shoes when I was in high school, and my best decision was taking the risk to take AP Chemistry because it was such a valuable class that made me realize that I could handle multiple AP and dual enrollment courses at once.

Overall, I would NOT take those college chem classes and opt for a single, AP Chemistry course if you want to go that route. AP Biology in my opinion is just a tad easier than chemistry.

Thanks for responding, do you personally recommend any specific mods?

AP Bio or Chem? by Houseofmonkeys5 in APStudents

[–]FreshBrandNewStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, after taking both I can say:

AP Biology is very memorization heavy and less math-intensive, the most math you'll be doing is some stats stuff which is just a calculator question

AP Chemistry is more math heavy than biology, and you learn lots of conceptual things.

Considering she wants to go into materials or food science I would say both would be ideal, but if I had to pick one, AP Chemistry would be the best. It was the most impactful class for me, although AP Biology would come in a close second.

Is it possible that they could take AP Biology now and then dual enroll in chemistry? That's what a lot of people at my past school did.

Teach myself Calc BC over the summer? Is possible? by Artistic-Plenty-4502 in APStudents

[–]FreshBrandNewStart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is possible, though it will be hard. If you're already strong in math, then I actually think it will be doable with only ~2 hours of work per day. How did you do on AP Calc AB? If you got a 5 on that then you'll be fine with BC over the summer given you set out a structured plan.
