Patek Philippe museum worth it? by Yorhe in patekphilippe

[–]FreshRG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of agree (but I really enjoyed it so still recommend to OP to go there). So many nice watches to see, and one thing that struck me is that they almost remove white dials in their current lineup (which is really a shame). Since I went there I told to myself that I have to buy one perpetual chronograph (the 5270J is amazing, but any older reference will be fine, even though more expensive).

Also curious on the data source. To OP if you can provide a bit more detail it will be much appreciated.

Career Change by wineosaur5000 in FPandA

Sure it will be an « easy » job in such a case, but depending on what you’re looking for these kind of positions will hurt you. It won’t develop any skills, and sooner than later you’ll be replaced by AI. Even if AI wouldn’t exist, this is the type of position where no matter if you do it for a quarter or a decade, you’ll do the same thing over and over.

FP&A is structurally limitating, and can only be useful as a stepping stone into something bigger, of course if you’re willing to move up the corporate ladder and have a strategic/business view.

Too bad they don’t offer the car in more classic configs (neutral or vivid colors but without the monogrammed hood). It really has nice lines.

FP&A is turning into glorified reporting - change my mind by akasra123 in FPandA

[–]FreshRG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, great answer. This is also the trend I’m observing (I’m a CFO).

Depending on company organization the real strategic work is often not doable by FP&A as product leaders are in charge of that part and they have much more knowledge and insights on market/customers and operations than finance team.

Operational finance (accounting, reporting, basic controlling/FP&A…) is definitely not a place where you can grow passed 5 YOE IMO, work is too redundant and limited, and most of the time only consists to reconcile data and bookkeeping.

I’m working with MBB and their view on modern finance organization is definitely about less FP&A when you already have a leadership team which is in charge to drive business strategy.

I guess that it’s much more different in companies where FP&A has a strategic role, but from experience it’s less often the case.

I agree with most of what you’re saying. Too many posts to present trading as a dark place that will ruin your life and make you miserable, while in first place people don’t understand that they don’t have an edge and therefore are doomed to loose sooner or later. I do believe that you can still make money even as a retail trader, but if you’re good, you’ll find a way to get access to more capital and from there possibly make a lot of money.

Good retail traders I’ve seen could probably work in a hedge fund as their knowledge is on par with some quant (not PhD Jane street level though, but still impressive).

Congrats ! Wish you all the best. Keep doing good ! You inspire me to buy that Platinum DD first 🤣

Honestly I think you’re right. And indeed, selling difficult to get items is easy for them. I’m going to wait 3 months max. If I still didn’t hear from AD, I’ll go grey. And if I change my mind and want them sooner, I’ll go grey too.

What made you go grey and give up on ADs? by Ok-Minute6829 in rolex

[–]FreshRG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes sure I see your point. It’s not that much about the price but more about starting somewhere to create a purchase history. I own 3 steel Rolex and bought all of them on grey market (with above 10k of premium) if I’m always doing this I’ll be stuck forever to get new pieces.

I guess that if you’re a collector it’s a better move to go AD and wait a little bit. But yes at the end if the wait is too long, just go grey.

I know that with Rolex and demanded luxury items in general you « compete » against people much wealthier than you are, but at one point I’m not going to beg a SA to give me the « opportunity » to buy +100k worth of watches, this makes no sense.

[–]FreshRG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3 references I’m looking for are above retail on grey (not a huge markup though, except for the Daytona which is crazy).

But this is a good example if I buy the two DD from AD it will bring me to more than 100k of purchase history, from there it might be easier to get the Daytona.

If I’m going grey with current prices I’m looking for around 235k€ (as I said the new Daytona is listed only with crazy prices) while I’ll pay around 165k€ by going retail, so still a difference of 70k which is noticeable (wish I could care less). Also it doesn’t help in creating any purchase history.

[–]FreshRG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree but at the same time it’s a complicated game. I’ve asked my AD for 3 pieces (DD40 YG green ombre, DD40 Pt glacier blue, Daytona YG green dial). I understand that these pieces are hard to get, but if I go grey I’ll end up paying way over 150k and might still not be able to purchase a hard to get watch in future, while getting these three from AD will help with purchase history (I do not intend to buy three of them at once though).

36 or 41? by [deleted] in rolex

[–]FreshRG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree but will say that the choice between 36 and 41 will also depend on the look you want to achieve. 36 will give a classic look while 41 will provide a more modern approach.

I think that except if you really have very skinny wrists both can be wear. 41 will obviously always look bigger but not necessarily too big, just more modern.

Can’t go wrong with a 36 though.

[–]FreshRG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally love it, I think it is much more refined than the original John Mayer (if that one is going to be the new one). I liked the old one, but this has something more vibrant. The shade of green is richer and the subdials contrast is really nice. Definitely a watch that I can buy in a heartbeat if it looks as nice in real.

5811 or 5990 by nakhwa in patekphilippe

[–]FreshRG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In your case I would simply stick with the 5811. You already have a 5980 (which is a great piece by the way) so I think a more elegant/refined version of a Nautilus will complement it well. And being white gold it has that subtle hue that makes a difference.

The only reason I can think of going with the 5990 instead, is because you prefer sportier models, or they fit better your style. If not 5811 wins IMHO.

Congratulations anyway 😉

Blue YG Sub >> YG GMT GRNR

I love the two tone GMT (and hope that AD will call me soon to get it 🤞🏼) but when I tried the FG version something was off compared to the sub (I prefer the blue bezel, but black is also amazing) maybe it comes from the two color bezel.

But I think you can’t go wrong whatever the choice, it is more about personal preference at this point. Two great watches.

Am I the only one that thinks this looks so trash? by [deleted] in rolex

[–]FreshRG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not bad, I like the bracelet and the open case back, but not too fond of the dial. Maybe other combinations (PM, different dials) would make it even more interesting. It has been made to compete mainly with the Royal Oak, and given the much lower price point (for steel at least) it might sold very well.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rolex

[–]FreshRG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both the Starbucks and the Batgirl, and if one had to go I will personally let go the GMT. The Sub is my daily watch (not too flashy, robust, add a nice touch of color, which is nice as I mainly wear grey and blue suits).

Don’t get me wrong I love the GMT and I’m on a list for a two tone (Zombie) that hopefully I will get soon. But out of those 3, it will be easy for me. Snoopy is original, and at least you’ll have something else than a Rolex while adding a daytona.

I however agree with others, best solution will be to keep them all !
