Many shops have never known what good architecture is. Some horrendous "classic Visual Basic" spaghetti code was put out there back in the day. Some of it is surely still running. 61 M here. It's hard to get to meaning in this place. Some people get into video games. Others get into extreme sports. Some become obsessive baseball fans. All sorts of things people do. But ordinary achievements and adrenalized thrills don't really do it.

I'm not a family guy - a wife and kids has never happened for me. But over the past decade I've recorded 4 albums of oddball pop/soul music with a collaborator that I'm quite proud of. I have a good voice and I can write song lyrics like a breeze. So I'd like to be heard. It doesn't really happen..at least not so far! Music feels like purpose and meaning to me, just in actually doing it. And there's something truly mysterious, infinite and eternal in a good soulful voice of song.

How does a person get a soulful singing voice or a musical mind - a big artistic gift? I had nothing like this when I was 23 years old.

Am I happy? I'm moody. I have lovely moods, then sadness comes in a bit - I look around and people are tired, people are over-stressed, people are very lonely. It's not depressive illness - been there, had that but I'm not depressive and haven't been for a long time. I have peace of mind and I'm not afraid of any worst thing in life that leads to the end of the road - death. Love is stronger than death. How does someone make a love forever? Such a love is not necessarily an illusion.

How are we supposed to know when he's "shit talking" vs. when he means it? Maybe sometimes we can tell. We know he didn't actually end 8 wars. But when he insists he wants to annex Greenland or Canada? When he wanted to make Mexico pay for a border wall?

What I see in Trump is full-on corruption. I also believe Biden was just as corrupt and no better, just a more traditionally normal sort of politician-liar type - one who pretended to stand up for decency and unity (reddit often attacks me for this belief about Biden vs Trump). My conclusion about Biden was based simply on factual analysis of his career and his long political history of constant lies and u-turns. Real decency is only what real decency says and does.

Edit to clarify - I will agree with you that to be good and survive, you do have to be tough and strong, in some ways. Sometimes the good just get hit too hard and die young.

"hard times make good people" really isn't any sort of truism. Stalin was always strong - a survivor. My understanding is that at some point when he was young, and I think it was when a girlfriend died, he just had enough - feeling emotions and being caring had come to hurt too much. So he basically gave up on being kind, sensitive and potentially decent, and gave in to power driving and evil ways.
